The Great Wine Capitals Global Network exists to link cities connected to great wine regions to sustain the health and prosperity of their wine-related industries, communities and tourism. The Network facilitates the sharing of knowledge, ideas and experience; stimulates business, innovation and friendships; and is a means to collaborate on challenges and opportunities. From its origins as an enterprise focused primarily on wine tourism, the Great Wine Capitals Global Network has broadened its scope in recent years to nurture collaborations, practice sharing and a sense of “greatness” in wine-related tourism, business and education sectors. From vineyard to glass, from harvest to drink, from makers to movers to consumers, the Network appreciates its role and value in connecting all facets of the great wine industries synonymous with its capitals.

Caitlin Davies and Chloe Grainger from the Adelaide, South Australia Great Wine Capitals Steering Committee recently welcomed winemakers from neighbouring Great Wine Capital Hawke’s Bay, New Zealand. The Hawke’s Bay group included Gavin Dalton – assistant winemaker at Brookfields Winery, Ryan Fraser – vineyard manager at Paritua Vineyards Limited and Sara Macdonald - assistant winemaker at Sileni What better way to introduce international guests to what the South Australian wine industry has to offer than through a visit to Adelaide’s iconic Penfolds Magill Estate. They visited the old working winery, took a look around the cellars carved an incredible 16 metres into the hill underground, and enjoyed a special tasting of Penfolds wine. The NZ visitors will now meet with and learn from SA wine producers about water saving initiatives, soil and vine health practices, future proofing against climate change, regenerative viticulture, and wine tourism. It's a sign... Last year Hawke’s Bay earned a spot in the elite group of places known as Great Wine Capitals of the World, confirming the region’s reputation as New Zealand’s Food and Wine Country. This week three signposts to the 11 other global Great Wine Capital locations have been installed in three high-traffic areas for visitors and locals alike, and we're chuffed to have one in prime position at the airport 🛫.
