Multi-stakeholder partnership accelerating the transition to efficient, climate-friendly cooling #GlobalCoolingPledge
À propos
The UNEP-led Cool Coalition is a global multi-stakeholder network that connects a wide range of key actors from government, international organizations, businesses, financial institutions, academia, and civil society to facilitate knowledge exchange, advocacy, and joint action toward a rapid global transition to efficient and climate-friendly cooling. The Cool Coalition promotes a ‘reduce-shift-improve-protect-leverage,’ cross-sectoral approach to meet the cooling needs of both industrialized and developing countries through better building design, energy efficiency, renewables, and thermal storage, as well as phasing down HFCs. Cool Coalition partners are collaborating on policy, finance, technology, and science to meet growing demands for cooling in a comprehensive manner, all aimed at raising climate ambition in the context of the Sustainable Development Goals while complementing the goals of the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol and the Paris Agreement. The Cool Coalition advocates for a structured approach to efficient, climate-friendly cooling for all, which means: REDUCING the need for mechanical cooling through better urban planning and building, including nature-based solutions such as green spaces, roofs, and walls. SHIFTING cooling to renewables, thermal storage, and district cooling approaches. IMPROVING conventional cooling by increasing efficiency and reducing the GWP of air conditioning and refrigeration equipment and demand response measures. PROTECTING vulnerable people from the effects of extreme heat and the consequences of unreliable medical and agricultural cold chains. LEVERAGING cooperation between different actors to achieve a greater collective impact. We wrapped up two fantastic days of meetings in Hanoi for the #Sustainable #Cooling Initiative. It was a privilege to have presented at the National Ozone Day Workshop, followed by meetings with BIDV (Bank for Investment and Development of Vietnam), Vinafco Corporation, and Vietnam association of HVAC-R manufacturers. Many thanks to the British Embassy in Hanoi for welcoming us and to the UK Government for supporting the initiative. Thomas Jacobs, Darryl Dong, Tuyen D. Busy days in Ho Chi Minh City for the #sustainable #cooling initiative. Thank you to Vietnam Business Forum (VBF) Consortium for hosting us for the policy dialogue with the local governments - we heard a huge need for more sustainable cold chains and overall need for recrimination to keep #Vietnam competitive. Huge thanks our IFC colleagues for organizing productive round tables - where we were joined by Cool Coalition colleague from UNEP - on cold chains, industrial zones, food and beverage production, and commercial buildings. We look forward to following these conversations up into next steps and finance! Tuyen D. Nguyen, Alok Singh, Selçuk Tanatar, Manjeet Singh

"Recap: Inter-Ministerial Policy Workshop on Passive Cooling" The second session of the Inter-ministerial workshop ,"Passive Cooling Strategies for #Buildings: Keeping Cambodians and the Climate Cooler," featured an in-depth look at case studies from the Asia-Pacific region and a review of Cambodia’s progress in developing codes and guidelines for passive cooling. Through inter-ministerial exchange, participants explored opportunities for coordinated policy development to support Cambodia’s national policy targets and international commitments under the National Energy Efficiency Policy, Cambodia’s updated #NDC, the #GlobalCoolingPledge, and the Sustainable Development Goals #SDGs. This exchange was a valuable step towards aligning efforts and fostering collaboration to promote energy-efficient and sustainable building practices across #Cambodia. https://lnkd.in/gRg3vNpY 🌱🏢 A big thank you to all participants for their contributions! "Recap: Inter-Ministerial Workshop on Passive Cooling in Cambodian Architecture" Government of #Cambodia, under the project, Passive Cooling Strategies for Sustainable Development Project in Cambodia, recently hosted an inter-ministerial event on "Passive Cooling Strategies for Buildings: Keeping Cambodians and the Climate Cooler." Hosted by the Ministry of Environment in collaboration with Ministry of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, the Ministry of Mines and Energy, supported by United Nations ESCAP and UN Environment Programme within the context of the Cool Coalition, the inter-ministerial workshop presented research and analytical work on the use of passive cooling strategies in Cambodian buildings. The workshop focused on cost-effective solutions for making #buildings more comfortable while lowering cooling loads, #energy demand, and #emissions.🌱🏢 Key discussions covered: 1. Historical and modern applications of passive design in Cambodian architecture 2. Energy-saving potential from efficient and affordable design strategies across various building typologies 3. Guidelines for integrating passive cooling strategies in buildings and enabling effective policy implementation Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC), Clean Cooling Collaborative #Sustainability #PassiveCooling #GreenArchitecture #GreenBuildings #EnergyEfficiency #Cambodia #BuildingInnovation Michael Williamson, Lily Riahi, Kimberly Roseberry Manjeet Singh Gennai Kamata Leyla Prézelin

"Advancing Passive Cooling and Sustainable Building Practices in Cambodia" We’re excited to share that UN RCO Cambodia, UN Environment Programme & United Nations ESCAP recently engaged in a pivotal country meeting with H.E. Say Sam Al, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia. The discussion focused on advancing sustainable cooling agenda in Cambodia through the promotion of passive cooling strategies in buildings. This collaborative effort aims to support to achieve Cambodia's social, economic and environmental goals. By integrating policy innovation with effective enforcement, affordable, durable, and locally sourced passive design innovations can be established as standard practice for Cambodia. As highlighted by the Deputy Prime Minister, these efforts are key to achieving our goals for a greener, more sustainable future. 🌱🏢 #MoE #MLMUPC #GlobalCoolingPledge #passivecooling United Nations in Cambodia , Global Alliance for Buildings and Construction (GlobalABC) Jo Scheuer, Michael Williamson, Kimberly Roseberry, Lily Riahi, Manjeet Singh, Gennai Kamata, Clean Cooling Collaborative

🎵🎶Summertime and the living is no longer easy 🎵🎶 Record high temperatures are striking, habitual weather patterns are disrupted and we face a frightening prospect of surge in cooling appliances to cope. A coping strategy that may make it worse. Instead we need to adapt by first and foremost ensuring city governments get the resources (knowledge, science, experts, space and money) they need. Second we need to go full frontal on passive cooling particularly through Nature Based Solutions. Third we need finance to flow, and once it does to flow to the right places and for the right purpose. As we enter the last strides towards preparing #NDC3.0 for submission in February 2025, there is a place for heat strategies, for actions of #cities to be embedded, recognized and supported, for measures on cooling to be enacted and for Nature Based Solutions, the all-powerful mitigation and adaptation solution.
