The intention-action gap significantly hinders the acceleration of sustainable change. According to a recent GlobeScan study, even though sustainability is deemed crucial for commercial success, only 37 percent of senior leaders feel it is deeply integrated into their core business practices. While transforming economic systems overnight isn't feasible, corporate changemakers can drive new decision-making processes within their organizations to prioritize the well-being of society and the planet. Ashoka Changemaker Companies has collaborated with Unblock, an organizational change consultancy, to investigate ways to embed sustainability and societal impact into core business practices. Our focus is on three key areas of an organization's decision-making framework that can be modified to promote large-scale, impactful decisions: 1️⃣ Organizational strategy: identifying trade-offs to set priorities 2️⃣ Measurements: incorporating non-financial metrics 3️⃣ Governance: including underrepresented voices in decision-making (yes, that includes social entrepreneurs!)
