A rare tropical disease throughout the 20th century, cases of Zika virus have now been reported across 89 countries and territories. In most people, symptoms of Zika are mild. But a rise in the number of infections in recent decades has led to two discoveries about the disease. 🟠 Zika infection can cause Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare condition that can cause paralysis. 🟠 It can also have huge health impacts for the unborn babies of infected pregnant people – including congenital malformations, stillbirth and foetal loss. So what is Zika, how does it spread and how can it be prevented? Read our explainer to find out ⤵️ https://wellc.me/3QFeeGz

To boost Somalia's health system and ensure access to life-saving vaccines for all, Africa CDC handed over cold chain equipment worth $497,617.84 to the Ministry of Health. This equipment, including walk-in cold rooms, refrigerators, vaccine carriers, and cold boxes, will strengthen the immunization program by ensuring the safe storage and transportation of vaccines to the last mile. This support is part of the Saving Lives and Livelihoods initiative, a partnership with the Mastercard Foundation.

📢 Geneva Health Forum 2024: Call for Abstracts is now OPEN! 3 themes will be addressed on 3 specific days including: 1. Migration, health and equity 2. Towards the elimination of malaria 3. Health and the environment, time for solutions Deadline: Dec 15, 2023
Geneva Health Forum 2024 Conference! 📢 Call for Abstracts Open! From May 27 to 29, 2024, the Geneva Health Forum Conference will convene alongside the World Health Assembly, offering a unique platform for scientists, medical practitioners, and field actors to address critical global health challenges. 2024 Conference theme: Health, a Common Good! Universal healthcare coverage (UHC) is at the forefront of the World Health Organization's (WHO) strategic priorities. The growing disparities in health outcomes worldwide highlight the limitations of relying solely on market mechanisms to ensure equitable access to healthcare. In response, the WHO advocates for the development of "common goods for health”. This concept extends beyond access, urging community engagement and considering social and environmental determinants of health. The 2024 GHF Conference will explore the vision of health as a common good, fostering discussions on societal responsibility, equity, and sustainability across three domains: 1. Health and Environment: Time for Solutions 2. Migration, Health, and Equity 3. Towards the Elimination of Malaria These themes represent critical issues in global health, and the Geneva Health Forum provides a platform for experts, researchers, and practitioners to collaborate, share insights, and advance solutions in these key areas. We invite you to CONTRIBUTE to this essential event through ORAL or POSTER PRESENTATIONS. Learn more about the Conference themes at https://lnkd.in/exYiGpdy and submit your abstract! 📆 Key Dates: 📌 Call for abstracts opens: October 1, 2023 🗓 Call for abstracts closes: December 15, 2023 📬 Decision notifications: January 31, 2024 🌐 GHF2024 dates: May 27-29, 2024 Join the collective effort to address these pressing global health challenges and work toward a healthier and more equitable world! #GHF2024 #CallForAbstracts #GlobalHealth #publichealth #HealthForAll #CommonGood #onehealth #planetaryhealth #ecohealth #malaria #migranthealth #internationalgeneva #WHA76
