The New York School of Professional Studies (New York University) invited me to participate in a dynamic discussion on luxury marketing as part of a study trip to Paris. ❇️ This conversation, alongside Jonathan Siboni and Ashley McDonnell, and moderated by Milos, was truly a lively exchange. Young people have many questions, especially regarding how to navigate their careers today: how to get into their dream company, how to spot and seize the right opportunities, or more technical questions about luxury: what potential tensions and challenges can arise between luxury, its rarity, exclusivity, and mass production by large corporations? I tried to reassure the students, many of whom were American or Chinese, by explaining that many answers to legitimate questions come naturally through experiencing the industry they aspire to join and the working world. It was a pleasure to talk to them about the history and dynamics of the luxury market, the evolution of the digital landscape and marketing practices, and to answer their questions through the lens of my own experience. I was told that these exchanges sparked a lot of reflection afterwards. That’s the best feedback I could receive. 🙏 Thank you Elisabeth Mitchell for these engaging conversations and your positive feedback on the panel and the students' interest. 🚀 Je viens de participer à une conférence sur le luxe organisée par Morgan Stanley, en tant que présidente de Baozun Brand Management. Je partage ce bref aperçu de ma présentation sur les tendances de la consommation en Chine. 📉 Le moral des consommateurs n'a jamais été aussi bas, ce qui se traduit par une baisse de la fréquentation des rues et des centres commerciaux au premier trimestre 2024. La croissance des ventes au détail a ralenti à 4,7 % en mars, contre 5,5 % en janvier-février et 7,4 % en décembre 2023. Une crise immobilière sans précédent et la faiblesse des dépenses de consommation sont exacerbées par les incertitudes économiques. 💎 Les consommateurs qui sont plus prudents ne recherchent pas nécessairement des produits moins chers mais de la valeur dans leurs achats. Malgré l'anxiété économique, il y a une tendance claire à la premiumisation. Les segments de marché haut de gamme restent résilients, avec une importance croissante accordée aux produits uniques, fonctionnels et de haute qualité. Ce sont des facteurs d'achat de plus en plus importants. L'enthousiasme pour la santé et le bien-être entraîne de belles performances dans des catégories telles que le yoga et les activités de plein air. Le divertissement culturel et le tourisme sont également en plein essor. 🔄 En réaction aux incertitudes, l'épargne des consommateurs chinois augmente (46 % du PIB) : beaucoup privilégient la sécurité financière aux dépenses immédiates. Cette tendance, associée à une croissance stable des revenus disponibles, pourrait différer les dépenses et offrir un rebond une fois la confiance rétablie, d'autant que la classe moyenne continue de grandir. 💡 Il faut savoir que le produit est désormais au centre de tout. Une chaîne d'approvisionnement solide, capable d'anticiper et de réagir rapidement aux micro-tendances de la consommation, est essentielle pour naviguer dans ce climat commercial hyper volatile.
