Read how Artelys Knitro helps computer science researchers find optimal edge computing deployments in this article funded by the US National Science Foundation. Edge computing is becoming a complementary architecture to cloud computing. A key advantage of edge computing is that edge data centers are typically located much closer to users than traditional cloud data centers. This is especially relevant for applications with tight latency requirements, like virtual reality, autonomous vehicle or the Internet of Things. However, since edge clusters are often resource-constrained, there is a trade-off between network latency and server processing latency while deploying applications on both edge and cloud. The authors propose an approach aiming at devising hybrid cloud/edge deployment plans guarantying an end-to-end latency (i.e., mean response time) lower than that of the pure cloud deployment counterparts, at minimal cost. For a given scenario with number and location of users and data centers, the method optimizes the number of servers per data center as well as the probability, for each possible pair user / data center, that a request from the user is scheduled to the data center. The resulting probability matrix enables the scheduler to realize the trade-off between edge processing and cloud processing. Because the mean end-to-end response time is a highly nonlinear and nonconvex function of the number of servers and scheduling probabilities, the authors used the Interior-Point/Direct algorithm of Artelys Knitro with the multistart feature to solve a continuous relaxation of the problem before rounding. Results show that the proposed approach indeed produces deployment plans at least as efficient as cloud deployments for an equal or lower budget. In addition, the proposed method outperforms purely edge deployments (i.e., when users send their requests to the closest data center) by 11% to 24%. Today we are pleased to introduce Florian, one of our optimization engineers in Lyon! Florian has been working for Artelys for almost five years! He regularly works on projects related to cutting problems. The aim is to design and implement algorithms which, based on a list of parts to be cut and the materials from which to cut them, generate cutting plans which minimize off-cuts.   “My work keeps me constantly learning and improving my skills. Thanks to this permanent evolution and these stimulating challenges, my experience at Artelys is truly enriching and motivating.”   👉 Learn more about Florian: https://lnkd.in/eGs_mx22   Artelys is constantly expanding and hashtag#WeAreHiring! 🎉 Artelys is proud to take part in a new project focusing on the environmental impacts of electric mobility deployment in France towards 2035. The study has been commissioned by ADEME and is being carried out in collaboration with I Care. 💡 This study includes a complete analysis of the environmental impacts of electric road mobility (passenger cars, trucks, and road public transportation), from the installation of charging stations and the manufacture of electric vehicles to electric vehicles charging on the French electricity grid. Several scenarios are considered for the evolution of the vehicles park, based on the work of Transition(s) 2050 by ADEME, and the associated charging trends. The evolution of the electricity production assets towards 2035 is based on RTE’s BP 2023 – 2035. ⚡ The Artelys Crystal Super Grid modelling solution will be used to analyse the impacts of electric mobility deployment on the need for transmission network reinforcements, investment in peaker capacities and the the nature of the hourly electricity production and its associated environmental impacts. Additionally, the reinforcement needs at the distribution network level will be estimated using a tool developed during the NEXT project, which is supported by ADEME.  👉Artelys Crystal Super Grid modelling tool: https://lnkd.in/eWffzMP 👉NEXT project: https://lnkd.in/eGAGVETu 👇 Find out more about our other studies carried out for ADEME: https://lnkd.in/dyDqsBtT

📢 We are thrilled to announce the launch of the FrHyGe project, funded by the European Commission via the Clean Hydrogen Partnership. Through the collaboration of 17 European partners and a 43€ million budget, the project aims to demonstrate large-scale underground hydrogen storage (UHS) in salt caverns in Manosque, France to pave the way for its industrialization (GeoH2) and replication in Harsefeld, Germany (SaltHy). Artelys leads a work package analyzing the economics of both projects using our multi-energy modeling solution, Artelys Crystal Super Grid. We will first perform a cost-benefit-risk analysis to inform the final investment decisions and then lead a task to assess the role of UHS in reaching European climate targets. 👉 Join us on our journey towards a sustainable, climate-neutral Europe and learn more in this article https://lnkd.in/en-jrtPg #cleanenergy #hydrogenstorage #netzero #sustainability #energytransition STORENGY Storengy Deutschland Capenergies GEOMETHANE Geostock Mines Paris PLS ARMINES Axens IFP Energies nouvelles ECO-MED ESK GmbH Enagás Ineris - Institut national de l'environnement industriel et des risques GRTgaz
