📢 Unifeeder logs highest market growth in intra-North Europe 📊 Alphaliner has calculated the market shares of each carrier offering regular intra-North European container services compared to a year ago. Unifeeder managed to achieve the highest market growth of all carriers in the intra-North European service segment over the past twelve months. ↗️ Unifeeder has overtaken CMA CGM and claims the second spot among North Europe’s largest operators. The Aarhus-based shortsea specialist has increased its market share from 12.8%, or just over 33,000 teu, a year ago to 15.1% today, equal to almost 38,000 teu. ℹ️ With 40 container ships deployed, Unifeeder now operates an additional six ships, while keeping its average vessel size at 950 teu. 🌐 Overall, intra-North European service capacity has plummeted by 3.5% or almost 10,000 teu compared to July 2023, as some mainline operators (MLOs) have either downsized or completely ceased some of their Northwest Continent-Baltic loops. ✅ Subscribe to the Alphaliner Weekly Newsletter for the latest news in Liner shipping at https://okt.to/4TxHQi.

📰 The terminal in question is Hamburg’s "Westerweiterung" (meaning 'Western Expansion'), which would create two new Megamax-ready piers of 450m and 600m in length and about 2.00 Mteu of new handling capacity. 💡 Read the full article shared by ShippingWatch below: 👇

📢 MSC and ZIM are once again the fastest growing carriers ℹ️ The fleet of the Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC) recently reached a capacity of 6.00 Mteu. The carrier, owned by the Aponte family, has increased its capacity this year so far by 400,000 teu, equivalent to more than half the size of Yang Ming, the smallest liner shipping company in our Top-10. 📊 MSC’s 7.1% fleet capacity growth was slightly higher than the market average of 6.2%. Percentagewise, the fastest growing carriers were ZIM ( 17.5%) and Hapag-Lloyd ( 10.6%). ⌛ Last year’s overview of the ‘gainers and losers’ in the first half of 2023 also revealed that MSC (in teu) and ZIM (in %) were the fastest growing carriers. MSC continues to increase its fleet relentlessly through a combination of newbuilding deliveries and the purchase of second-hand tonnage. 👉 Last week’s additions to the MSC fleet included the 25 year old Evergreenveteran EVER UNITY, which was renamed MSC UNITY VI, and the 2003-built ALEXANDER BAY, which continues to trade for its new owner under the name MSC BAY IV. ✅ Subscribe to Alphaliner Weekly Newsletter https://okt.to/4TxHQi

🌍 This is what avoiding the route traditionally used by ~30% of global Container Trade looks like. Illustrated below, Container Ship live traffic of vessels having 10,000 TEU capacity. ℹ️ The blue points on the map indicate vessels which would have passed the Suez Canal West-to-East, while the orange points are vessels which would have travelled East-to-West through the Canal under normal circumstances. 📢 Alphaliner's AXSInsights module comes with multiple dashboards specifically tailored to help you monitor Canals' traffic and Cape of Good Hope reroutes. 📢 Boiling hot boxship market keeps lid on demolition sales 💰 The sales of cellular container vessels for recycling remained low in the first half of 2024, with only thirty-four ships for a total of 48,600 teu disposed of. This figure is significantly less than the 77,000 teu sold for scrap in the corresponding first half of 2023 which was already a subdued semester. ℹ️ The slight pickup observed in the second half of 2023, with 81,000 teu of capacity sold was therefore not followed by the large-scale rebound in demolition transactions that was widely expected by the industry. 👉 The main cause of the continuously low demolition sales is the persistently unsafe situation in the Red Sea. As most container lines now avoid the area and divert their vessels via the Cape of Good Hope (CGH), demand for additional tonnage to offset longer steaming distances has shot up. ✔️ This has given an unexpected boost to the charter and freight markets, resulting in a quick dry up in supply. Even the influx of huge newbuilding capacities (1.7 Mteu delivered so far this year), and to a lesser extent, more fluid transits through the Panama Canal, have failed to destabilize the market. ✅ Subscribe to Alphaliner Weekly Newsletter https://okt.to/4TxHQi

❗️ 0️⃣ ❕ Not a single ULCS Megamax-class Container Ship of 18,000 TEU capacity has passed through the Suez Canal over the past 18 weeks. By comparison, before the Red Sea crisis between 20 and 30 vessels of this category sailed through the Canal weekly. 📢 Alphaliner's AXSInsights module comes with multiple dashboards specifically tailored to help you monitor Canals' traffic and Cape of Good Hope reroutes. 💡 Find out more at https://bit.ly/4bb4GvV

📣 The Loadstar: On the back of rocketing spot freight rates, Hapag-Lloyd today upped its 2024 financial guidance after releasing unaudited first-half results. Despite the increase, some analysts have questioned why the German carrier was not more bullish in its outlook. 💭 Alphaliner commented “It will come as no surprise that carriers are revising their financial expectations upwards, though observers might have expected an even greater uplift from Q1 to Q2. The higher forecast was mainly due to earnings momentum for the second half of the year” ✅ Read the full article below:
