To effectively manage a cross-functional team, building a good rapport with all the team members is important by allowing their contributions to count. In teamwork, there is a need to set clear goals, encourage effective communication and showing good leadership style by maintaining an open door policy that gives individuals the freedom to interact without being judged. Showing positivity in a team environment where there are challenges by going the extra mile to support and encourage team members to develop I can do spirit would go a long way to achieve results.

That’s very true, it might take some time to develop a strong and empathetic trust among memebers and once it’s developed we can’t say it’s done forever, the efforts to keep the trust getting stronger and stronger is what would build a trustworthy and sincere team that would work in spiritually dedicated form. This can be easily achieved if the members coming from cross functional teams - aspire for the similar goal and vision. - Moreover their contribution is acknowledged and - they can connect their own growth with that of the organization.

Clear Communication: Ensure everyone understands goals, roles, and expectations. Respect and Trust: Value diverse perspectives and foster a collaborative environment. Recognition and Support: Acknowledge achievements and provide necessary resources. Conflict Resolution: Address conflicts promptly and promote constructive dialogue. Empowerment: Encourage autonomy while providing guidance and support when needed.

What makes cross-functional teams, individuals from different functional areas, collaborate successfully is that they work towards a common goal that is communicated effectively and is also SMART (Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant and Time-bound).

The key to successful collaboration among cross-functional teams, consisting of members from various functional areas, is the pursuit of a shared goal. This goal needs to be effectively communicated. When all team members work towards a common, well-defined objective, it leads to improved cooperation and coordination, ultimately resulting in the successful completion of the task at hand. Encourage your junior to become active voice can also enhance the success rate.

I had to make a financial report at work because our finance officer left suddenly. I didn't know much about leading a finance team, but I involved everyone, even those who weren't familiar with financial reports. We made a good report together. One team member said they liked how I included everyone. It shows how important it is to include everyone in teamwork. Even though it was a one-time thing, my team still gives me good feedback.

In cultivating a strong team, I've discovered the value of actively listening to each team member's contributions. Rather than hastily dismissing a team member who wants to express their views, encourage open dialogue and consider their insights. This inclusive approach fosters collaboration and strengthens the team.

Be sure to include opportunities for everyone on the teams to contribute. Sometimes it will be certain group who feel marginalized, or are just not as likely to verbalize their thoughts, and sometimes it will be individuals within groups. One way to do this is to diverge before converging -- thereby giving everyone an opportunity to get their ideas together before sharing, which is especially helpful in cross-functional teams where certain members may not feel as well versed or comfortable on a given topic or challenge.

Effective communication cuts across all functional responsibilities. A message is not considered delivered if proper communication is not passed across to the end users. A finance employee shouldn't be sending information containing too many jargons to an IT staff or even to management board. A financial report can be summarized in a suitable way to enable the stakeholders understand clearly about a business operation without having to go over too many figures.

Communication is the key aspect that sets the foundation to trust building. Be it internal or external stakeholders / colleagues, It is fundamentally important to respect their time. So effective communication involves the following - Send the agenda of the discussion ahead of the meeting. - Keep the communication open. - Tailor your communication to the participants you are speaking to. - Plan ahead and make sure you convey the message as precise and accurately possible without a long monologue. - Leverage communication styles and tools to ensure your audience understands what you are trying to convey more easily. - Placeholders to check if the message has been received by the audience.

Allowing team members the space to take ownership of their tasks can pay huge dividends in a very short amount of time. When forming cross-functional teams, I have been floored by comments to the effect of "I am so glad I can finally own and talk about my work. I've never felt like part of a team, but I do now." The immediate boost in confidence really shows in daily interactions.

Empowerment involves giving team members the autonomy and resources they need to excel. Trust your team with responsibilities and provide them with the authority to make decisions. Offer opportunities for professional growth through training, mentorship, and challenging projects. Recognize and utilize each member’s strengths, and encourage them to take initiative and innovate. Provide constructive feedback to help them grow, and celebrate their successes to boost confidence. Empowered team members are more engaged, motivated, and committed to the team’s success.

Who considers performance should not only consider the result.
Independence and responsibility are one of the biggest motivators. In my opinion, the humbleness of the leadership is also missing from the equation: Many roads lead to Rome. Even if you have found a successful method for yourself, there can always be improvements or a better version of it. You have to remain open to fresh input and think institutionally, because the best idea wins. In addition to motivation, this also has an influence on self-perception and confidence in your own abilities in order to develop them further.

Celebrating success doesn't need to be a big public affair in a team meeting. I think the small emails to thank someone for efforts that are above and beyond but are personalised can be even more impactful to that individual. Or a small note on the desk with a chocolate bar is another nice way to thank someone. Some employees respond better to more discrete ways of acknowledgement and hate the big public recognition displays.

Cheeeeers !! A pat on the back, a thumbs up, a smile, or a quick message saying "YOU ROCK" can motivate you to do more and be more efficient and focused! 🫡Never forget to congratulate each other at work! 🙏🏻Let's comfort each other as well... if things go wrong... There's always a solution to every problem... and there's always a second chance, right?"

I so much agree with the culture of celebrating success no matter the nature of the win. It reignites the team loyalty passion among team members. The success mustn't necessarily be attached to team goals, it could be about a member who just got certified for a professional course. It creates a positive impression in the mind of such member like the organization is actually interested in their employees' career growth. It is like a pat on the back and an encouragement to other employees to do more.

In my experience of leading cross functional teams, I came across a certain sense of importance that comes with team members from various departments. It is critical that every member understands and appreciates that in an organisation, no department takes precedence above the other. No one's role is less important than the other. They must be made to realise that departmental goals are/(should be) linked to a higher organisational goal. This usually takes time. The sooner the boat points to the right direction, the quicker we reach our goals by rowing efficiently.
