About us
We are a Nordic foodtech company, that aims to change the way the food system operates. We help food manufacturers and processors reach their sustainability targets by upcycling their side streams back into the foodchain as high-quality protein and lipid ingredients. We do this with the help of an amazing insect, the black soldier fly, and our proprietary technology and know-how. Our radically sustainable drop-in proteins and lipids are used by feed and pet food companies. The environmental footprints of our products are a fraction of those that we are replacing. Our products are perfect for companies and consumers who are ready for a radical change in how food is produced: no compromises in the highest quality, circularity at the heart of the process and in industrial scale for a tangible impact. Our roots are in science and years of research at a VTT Technical Research Centre of Finland. Hence, learning and developing is in our DNA on every level. We are backed by Maki.vc, which invested in us in our seed round in spring 2021.

We are collaborating with three companies - Alltech Fennoaqua, Kalavapriikki Oy and Kalankasvatus Vääräniemi to bring the first insect-fed rainbow trout products to the markets in Finland! A value-chain partnership like this is very powerful when introducing new sustainable ingredients. The insect protein is produced at our demonstration facility at Hyvinkää, Finland, Alltech Fennoaqua then uses it in the rainbow trout feed recipe and produces the feed at their factory at Raisio, Finland, the rainbow trout is grown at Kalankasvatus Vääräniemi and distribution will be done by Kalavapriikki Oy throughout Finland. Volare team visited AquaVision in Stavanger, Norway this week! What an experience! We brought home many learnings, new connections and great memories. Thanks Skretting and Nutreco teams, organizers, speakers and participants!
🔥🚀😵 Wow, my head is still spinning from the amazing three days in Norway! It was my first time at AquaVision and I have to say it was one of the best conferences I’ve ever been to. 🐟 It’s clear that aquaculture has a big role in feeding the world sustainably and providing healthy nutrition to the growing world population. There are big changes and megatrends like marine resource scarcity, animal welfare and changing policies affecting the future of the industry. However, I was happy to see the enthusiasm with which the challenges are taken on and the spirit of making the industry better together with all the stakeholders. Here’s a few of the most inspiring and memorable topics covered: 👉 Paul Krugman, Nobel Laureate in Economics, shared his views on where the world economy is going (politics plays a role here…) 👉 Gonzalo Muñoz Abogabir CMG, a renowned climate champion, shared his views on how aquaculture will have a crucial role in feeding the growing world population sustainably and that shifting your mindset to exponential is key to understanding the change potential 👉 Anita Schjøll Abildgaard, CEO of Iris.ai, gave an overview on the history and future of AI (In a few years not using AI is like not using software or electricity today) 👉 Mark Gallagher inspired us on how Red Bull Racing & Red Bull Technology has become a leading team in a field previously unfamiliar to them, how they use data and how the industry has reinvented their business model over the years 👉 David Bravo dropped jaws by sharing how his team uses systems thinking in combining natural sciences and AI to create animal health solutions from plants And this is just scratching the surface!
