🤰🔬🌿 Urgent Call for Research on Lyme Disease in Pregnancy 🔬 👶 Lyme disease during pregnancy remains an underexplored area with significant gaps in our understanding. Current knowledge is primarily based on case studies and small research series. These studies have observed clinical outcomes for mothers and babies, but confirmed cases of fetal infection are rare. With no population-wide data available, the need for comprehensive research is clear. The author proposes a prospective study that will investigate Borrelia infections during pregnancy across regions with varying Lyme disease prevalence. This research aims to use advanced serological, microscopic, culture, and molecular methods to study the development of children exposed to or infected with Borrelia in the womb. 👩⚕️ In addition to tracking Borrelia burgdorferi sensu stricto, the study will expand to test for other tick-borne infections.
