JKMM was granted a honorary mention in the international competition for the Museum of History and the Future in Turku! An international architectural competition for the Museum of History and Future of Turku was held from September 4, 2023, to January 16, 2024. A total of 401 proposals were accepted for the evaluation phase. Earlier this week, the results of the competition were announced at an award ceremony held in the Queen’s Hall of Turku Castle. The winning entry was “Squāma” by Sigge Architects Ltd. The proposal “Epookki” by JKMM Architects received an honorable mention. The construction of the world’s first Museum of History and Future is scheduled to be completed in time for Turku’s 800th anniversary celebrations in 2029, with the museum set to open to the public at the end of the following year. The Tekla BIM Awards Finland 2024 public voting is now open until 9 June! We are proud to be part of 2 nominated projects this year! We Land Office Building: NCC has collaborated with Helsingin kaupunki – Helsingfors stad – City of Helsinki and JKMM Architects to develop a modern office building that not only serves its tenants but also enhances the surrounding community, contributing to the profile of the Ruoholahti district as even more attractive. The building will be constructed in accordance with the BREEAM environmental certification. The aim is to achieve an internationally exceptional BREEAM Outstanding rating, the first of its kind in Finland. SKiB Campus: The project is a diverse school and cultural campus operated by Svenska Kulturfonden i Björneborg (SKiB), being built in the center of Pori. The campus comprises mainly a new building with wooden structures, along with the renovation of a 1960s brick school and the 1930s Rosa Huset, which is part of a nationally significant urban park with historical architectural value. We celebrated historic day on May 17, 2024 when the foundation stone of the new annex of the National Museum of Finland was laid with a great ceremony. The event was attended by a wide range of representatives of state and media, including Minister of Science and Culture Sari Multala. The foundation stone was laid with President Alexander Stubb's greeting to the future. The new museum annex is one of the most significant cultural projects of our time. Since 1916, the museum has served as a symbol of our national culture. The ongoing extension project of the museum brings new opportunities to fulfill the museum's mission in a contemporary manner. The new National Museum will open to the public in spring 2027. The project is managed by the state's real estate agency, Senate Properties. JKMM Architects is responsible for the main, architectural, and interior design of the new annex, with SRV as the main contractor. The results of the international architecture competition for the expansion and renovation of the Gothenburg Museum of Art were announced at the end of March. For the competition, JKMM teamed up with the Swedish firm Strategisk Arkitektur and the joint proposal was selected among the top 6 in the 2-phase competition. Our design proposal, named ‘Etos’, aims to create a timeless space that fosters a unique art experience, a destination with a distinct identity for encounters and reflections. The main goal is to establish the Gothenburg Museum of Art as a noteworthy representative among both national and international art institutions.
