Wheelchair rugby athlete Danial Bawthan has been training at Bukit Canberra ActiveSG gym since February. He enjoys the convenience of the HUR machines, which allow him to work out without leaving his wheelchair. “When I started to go to the gym about 6-7 years ago, there was no such thing as HUR machines. When it first came out, I was quite excited that there are machines that cater to wheelchair users. For us transferring on and off chairs could be a risk. With this kind of set-up, it’s so convenient.” Danial says. At HUR, we are committed to designing training equipment with accessibility. HUR had the honour of participating in the Finland Healthcare Seminar in Qatar, which brought together experts from both Finland and Qatar to exchange knowledge and innovate future rehabilitation solutions. H.E. Mr. Ville Tavio, Minister for Foreign Trade and Development, officially inaugurated the seminar. H.E. Pekka Voutilainen, Ambassador of the Republic of Finland in Doha, delivered a keynote address emphasizing the strong diplomatic relationship between the two nations. The event featured expert keynotes, including Prof. Hanan Khalil from Qatar University, who discussed advancements in Qatari rehabilitation practices, and Prof. Arto Hautala, former Director, Research & Education at HUR and current Associate Professor at the University of Jyväskylä in Finland,  who provided insights on physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Key figures from HUR, such as CEO Mats Manderbacka and Executive Vice President MENA Bilal Qudisat, also participated. Dr. Tim Henwood serves as the Group Manager of Research & Development at Southern Cross Care (SA, NT & VIC) Inc. (SCC), which provides evidence-based, person-centred care. Tailoring individual health pathways for each client, SCC serves over 3000 clients, with an average age of 79.6 years, in South Australia and the Northern Territory. SCC offers a variety of services, including over 45 exercise group presentations, over 1250 one-on-one allied health sessions, and more than 6000 respite hours.
