Avoimuusrekisterin neuvottelukunnan laatimat Hyvän edunvalvontatavan suositukset julkaistiin viime viikolla. Fortum sitoutui suositusten noudattamiseen ensimmäisten joukossa. Aktiivinen vuoropuhelu päättäjien ja muiden yhteiskunnallisten vaikuttajien kanssa on tärkeä osa päivittäistä työtämme Fortumissa. Tavoitteenamme on edistää avointa, läpinäkyvää ja kaksisuuntaista vuoropuhelua eri sidosryhmien kanssa. Fortum otti omat edunvalvonnan eettiset ohjeet käyttöön puolitoista vuotta sitten (ks. linkki kommentissa). Ohjeet koskevat edunvalvontaa ja ulkoisten sidosryhmäsuhteiden hallintaa kaikissa toimintamaissamme. Ohjeet, jotka sisältävät kymmenen periaatetta, täydentävät konsernin toimintaohjetta. Näemme, että nyt julkaistut Hyvän edunvalvontatavan suositukset ovat hyvin linjassa Fortumin omien ohjeiden kanssa. https://lnkd.in/d6Rz4xV6

We have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with KORAD (Korea Radioactive Waste Agency) regarding cooperation in the field of radioactive waste management ☢   Over the past few years, Fortum has provided consultation support to KORAD on #wastemanagement and #disposal-related topics through two different assignments. The newly signed MoU facilitates and paves the way for more detailed technical support and consultation services. Säg hej till Swati Salotra, som praktiserar i Fortums rekryteringsteam. ⭐ Swati började sin praktik i mars och har sedan dess stöttat rekryteringsteamet genom att söka och screena kandidater samt skapa attraktiva jobbannonser. Dessutom är hon engagerad i ett projekt med syfte att förbättra Fortums strategier för talangförvärv. Swatis mål är att bygga en framgångsrik och meningsfull karriär och att arbeta på ett företag som erbjuder stabilitet och utvecklingsmöjligheter. Together with other international operators, we also promote the responsibility and transparency of solar energy supply chains. In June 2024, we joined the Solar Stewardship Initiative (SSI). Exploring Constructional Measures for the First Time in the Nordics Hydropower stands as a cornerstone in the Nordic electrical power system, balancing the grid with its flexibility. Yet, its environmental impact calls for innovative solutions. In 2024, Johannes Eltzsch at KTH finished his master's thesis that delves into constructional measures to mitigate hydropeaking effects, with a focus on one of our hydropower plants in Oreälven river. The case study highlights retention basins as a promising solution, dampening rapid water flow changes from hydropeaking. The hydrological impacts of hydropeaking were measured by changes in the water level and the research demonstrated the mitigation measures’ suitability for use in Sweden and Finland. Tack till alla som deltog på vårt seminarium ”Omställning – var god dröj?” i Almedalen! Vi inledde Almedalsveckan med ett fullsatt seminarium om hur vi kan öka takten i omställningen. Paneldeltagare från industri, myndigheter och politiken gav sin syn på vilka utmaningarna är och hur vi kan komma framåt. 💡 Industrin betonade behovet av pragmatism, gemensamma spelregler och snabbare tillståndsprocesser. 💡 Myndigheterna lyfte fram att effektiviseringar har haft en positiv inverkan på elanvändningen, och att samarbete mellan myndigheter är nyckeln till framsteg. 💡 Politikpanelen diskuterade utbyggnaden av fossilfria kraftslag och prioriteringar, och vikten av lokal ersättning för kraftproduktion. Fortums VD Peter Strannegård summerade seminariet med att omställningen troligtvis kan komma att dröja litegrann, men att det tydligt finns en vilja. ”Kan vi kroka arm och jobba tillsammans inom olika delar av samhället, då kan vi nå målen. The Nature Restoration Regulation is adopted and will enter into force this summer. We recognize the degradation of biodiversity as one of the largest environmental challenges globally that must be tackled - that is why it is one of our sustainability priorities. We expect increasing restoration activities in forests, marshlands and small waterbodies. Together with our own biodiversity activities in terrestrial and aquatic areas in the impact areas of power plants, they improve the quality and quantity of habitats on a larger scale and make also our own restoration actions more effective.    However, the new regulation could lead to unforeseen negative consequences for the energy system. Aligning the restoration measures with existing renewable energy production and new measures to reach the climate and energy goals is essential in the implementation. We are looking forward to participating in the preparation of the restoration plans together with authorities and other stakeholders. 

The European Green Deal, the flagship programme of the Ursula von der Leyen’s Commission, is without doubt the most ambitious decarbonisation plan in the world, with an objective to reach carbon neutrality in Europe by 2050. Several initiatives to strengthen European security of supply, strategic autonomy and resilience have already been tabled, but further actions are needed also from the next EU Commission. We support the Green Deal Statement by SolarPower Europe confirming the continuation of the high climate and energy transition ambition and complementing it with a Clean Industrial Deal. #GreenDealforEU #decarbonisation
