Hydrogen economy, Power-to-X, RFNBO, hydrogen backbone, derivatives, and all of the different colours of hydrogen, which is a coulourless gas…? Hydrogen is a simple molecule, but a complex topic. Its versatility leads to a lot of terms that are not always easy to understand. We compiled a glossary to explain some of the terms we use in our project communication. ➡️https://lnkd.in/d_aE8dT4

Demonstrating hydrogen economy with the largest cross-border Hydrogen Valley in Europe
About us
BalticSeaH2 is a project co-funded by EU, which builds the first significant, cross-border hydrogen valley in Europe. The goal is to create an integrated hydrogen economy around the Baltic Sea to enable self-sufficiency of energy and minimise carbon emissions from different industries. The project includes 40 partners from nine Baltic Sea area countries. BalticSeaH2 projects enables 25 demonstration and investment cases to showcase the different sectors of hydrogen economy, adding up to over 4000 million euros in total investments. The production potential for hydrogen will reach 100 000 tonnes of hydrogen annually by the end of the project. The hydrogen and its derivatives can be utilised or sold by different industries brought together by the project. Funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union or Clean Hydrogen Partnership. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them. The project is supported by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership and its members.

The green hydrogen transition presents a monumental socio-technical transition. The establishment of local, national, and regional hydrogen valleys will inevitably require substantial investments and infrastructural development: new wind and solar farms, nuclear power plants, hydrogen facilities, transmission pipelines and routes, and large-scale storage facilities. At the same time, local opposition towards green energy infrastructure has increased in the Baltic Sea Region (BSR). What are we doing for just transition? 🔎 Have a look at the report series of the Hydrogen Valley BalticSeaH2. Funded by the Clean Hydrogen Partnership, the report series of BalticSeaH2 addresses the drivers and barriers occurring in the implementation of a large-scale, interregional hydrogen valley. 🆕 The first report of this series is now published and deals with power-to-gas and Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) at a waste-to-energy plant. The first Hydrogen Economy Drivers and Barriers report about power-to-gas and CCU at a waste-to-energy plant has been published. This barrier was identified as one of the investment cases planned to be a part of the project could not be implemented. The main reason for disinvestment decision was that CCU is not recognized as an emission reduction action in waste-to-energy plants and produced district heat still remains to have high share of fossil CO2. Current regulation fails to promote the circulation and effective use of CO2 in situations where emissions cannot be avoided. ➡ Read more here: https://lnkd.in/dJ5z_Gk9 Clean Hydrogen Partnership

Nine gas transmission system operators (TSOs) in the countries around the Baltic Sea have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which aims to coordinate and facilitate hydrogen infrastructure and also to foster hydrogen market development in the Baltic Sea region. The purpose of the cooperation in the Baltic Sea region is to coordinate collaborators’ activities for development of the hydrogen economy in the region. To support positive hydrogen development, the companies will coordinate the development of infrastructure projects for the transmission and storage of hydrogen in the region. 👉https://lnkd.in/dyaJTvgt

DNV study indicates high potential of hydrogen in the Northern Baltic sea region🔎 "If we know about such a large and comparatively inexpensive potential right on our doorstep, it would be criminal not to exploit it"💡 The Baltic Sea region holds considerable potential to produce cheap, green hydrogen, which could be a significant contribution to the diversification of sources and energy independence in Europe. Research Scientist at VTT, studying social justice and conflicts related to the green hydrogen transition
🌏 New blog alert on just hydrogen transition! 🌏 As I was unfortunately unable to attend #vetyareena this year, I decided to share my reflections on some of the key justice elements related to the #greenhydrogen transition in a blog format. While green hydrogen technologies offer promising solutions to decarbonize hard-to-abate industries, ensuring an inclusive and fair hydrogen transition is just as important. The blog highlights strategies for a just hydrogen transition, such as community engagement and benefit-sharing mechanisms, which are particularly relevant in the context of the Baltic Sea Region, currently witnessing growing local opposition against green energy initiatives.
