The New York Times did a piece titled 100 Small Acts of Love and these are some of my favorites 💕
I hate how people will look at popular indie artists who had one or two songs go viral on TikTok and start making fun of anybody who listens to them. “Oh you listen to Lemon Demon, Will Wood, Jack Stauber, Glass Animals, and Mother Mother? Tsk, don’t you know that is stupid TikTok neurodivergent white transmasc preteen music? It’s so mid and bad you should listen to real music–” you are a pit of misery
People can’t just say “I don’t like this music” anymore they gotta call you gay and autistic for listening to a band that had one song go viral
just gonna drop this here
Telling people something is bad because it’s popular with autistic and/or trans people is still wildly bigoted even if you add “white”
symphoniacostumes on ig
I mean this with all sincerity, this is haute couture to me
Only reason I don’t have ovaries anymore is because they exploded back in 2014 when that was a common occurrence
You used to not be able to watch tv without this happening, it was a real hazard being a fan back then. These days it just gives you covid.
For anyone in the US, Penzeys the infamously anti-Trump spice store is running a deal today and tomorrow (12-13th of December) where everything in the store is 50% off IN store and 25% off online with code: RESIST
I’m not sponsored or affiliated. Just someone who likes Penzeys and am about to restock my entire spice cupboard for considerably less than it would normally cost.
#not the best use of ‘infamous’ methinks
I feel it works in the sense that Republicans regularly harass them for their politics and lose their shit everytime the CEO says something revolutionary like ‘we believe in basic human rights,’ so they very much are infamous in certain parts of the Internet. Maybe just not Tumblr 😅
Also the offer doesnt apply to saffron, vanilla extract or giftcards but it does apply to the gift boxes, so if anyone is struggling for winter gifts, I can heartily recommend their baking and hot chocolate kits.
Yeah I think “infamous” is fair. The first time I bought something at one of their physical stores, the cashier told me I could sign up for the newsletter to learn about deals and discount codes, but very earnestly warned me that the owner sometimes used it to share his political opinions.
Honestly, it’s worth it for his emails alone.
He gets very angry but in a very “loves humanity with his entire being and is very pissed off people are using their time on this earth to be cruel” kind of way that feels very comforting in a world where brands have co-opted therapy speak into their corpo-speak to mind-numbingly insincere effect.
Sometimes it’s just nice to open an email that says “boy howdy things sure are fucked. Here’s why you shouldn’t walk into traffic this week. Also here, have some spices for $10.”
You Fucking Justin Treaudone It Now

I’m a big fan of people finding a spiritual or religious practice that works for them but if you’re required to pay money to a particular person or buy a certain thing regularly from a certain place I don’t think that’s a spiritual practice. You may have been scammed.
Like I really don’t think that paying a thousand dollars to go on a meditation retreat is mandatory for your journey to enlightenment. I really don’t.
No matter what kind of religion or type of spirituality you wanna get into there are free resources and/or cheap one time purchases that’ll get you there. I’ve never bought a Bible for myself I don’t think. They just kind of end up at my house. I got my Buddha statue for like 12 bucks. Like don’t listen to people who are trying to get you to buy their courses. The universe will hear your screams whether you have paid or not.
The universe will hear your screams whether you have paid or not.
That goes so hard!
oh perf i needed a prompt
I agree with all of this, but also a substantial portion of the people paying thousands for meditation retreats have more money than anyone needs and deserve to get fleeced
Poor and middle class people go into extreme debt every year getting roped into self help and spirituality scams. That scummy tv preacher isn’t getting all or even most of his fistfuls of money from rich donors. He’s preaching prosperity gospel to everyday folks looking for some relief. And no matter who you are or how poor you are, when you’re desperate enough you start to believe charismatic people who say they can make all your problems go away if you’ll just buy their book.
