📱 Social media platforms are increasingly seen as valuable tools for studying the dynamic phenomenon of #migration. Our latest paper explores how people on the move through Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) use #SocialMedia. More precisely, it investigates the use of Facebook, examining posts from 2022 and 2023 from eight public Facebook groups created to exchange information on northward migration in LAC. Key findings include: 🔹 Almost a quarter of the posts collected for this study (21.5%) were entries from migrant smugglers and other actors offering services in countries within the region or to reach the United States. 🔹 Most of the analyzed posts showed that migrant populations face a widespread lack of information about regularization processes, migratory transit, routes, costs, access to services, and the updating of migratory policies, among other topics. 🔹 In the studied Facebook groups, there was an absence of posts by non-governmental organizations (NGOs) and national and local authorities regarding information needed and sought by people on the move. ⬇️ Discover more about the online communities from LAC to North America.

You could add real value to InternetNZ
Business Growth & Commercialisation Engine. CxO Success and well-being specialist. Business & exit Strategist. Executive. Finds/grows revenue streams/ markets/ investors. IP nerd. Open technologist. Public speaker.
If you are a current member, please vote for me in the InternetNZ Council election. I’m keen to help the Council push hard towards a more vibrant InternetNZ. One that is the centre of a healthy technical and policy community, with significant input to government, to ICANN, and global internet policy. InternetNZ could benefit from more aggressive efforts at external engagement, more opportunities for public comment, and a renewed approach to active policy and community funding. These would support InternetNZ’s charter and the interests of NZ’s internet users. Which is all of us in Aotearoa. With InternetNZ, I’d love to support the possibility of an open-and-uncapturable internet full of fun and human connection again– not one that is primarily for harvesting data, selling fast plastic fashions from overseas, enriching a few billionaires, and harming our democracies. Instead, one that fulfils the internet’s potential for connection and culture, especially for Aotearoa New Zealand and the Pacific. I'd also like the Member's List to not be exclusive to Slack! Now is the time for InternetNZ to be working hard to drive these conversations. We can engage more effectively with our members, with more of the non-member internet users in Aotearoa and our Pacific neighbours, with the media, and with policy-makers. This work needs driven people and energy, and I’m eager to contribute. Please support me in my desire to enable InternetNZ to continue as a more vibrant nexus of Aotearoa’s internet community and policies. Thank you so much for your consideration. Please feel encouraged to contact me should you have any questions. Cheers, Daniel Spector

It is openly not only about cleaning the industry, but pure cold numbers and elections, and public perception on migration, as we all knew. Targeting the large Universities, which are well ranked internationally, thanks to much of the funding provided by full fee paying international students is going to have a negative impact. The current mess of uncertainty within the International Education sector continues. Sad state of affairs that immigration ( be it temporary or permanent) is still after all these years seen in a negative light and weaponized as an election issue. Ironic in a nation that has been built on immigration and where migrants have given, literally, their work and life for this Lucky country. https://lnkd.in/gsbDpxQf
