Often times this question can be a challenge to a candidate because luxury does mean different things to different people (and interviewees are less likely to think of their luxurious moments while out and about). For someone looking to work in the luxury tier/space, being able to draw on that can give a candidate: - A personal connection between what they've seen and what guests are expecting -A better understanding of the expectations they would be when interviewing for a position. -An awareness of "here's the gap I need to address in order to be ready to succeed in this role" For those working in some of the larger brands, I always recommend taking one trip between 2-4 days (use those hotel discounts!!!) and having that experience first-hand. #hotels #hospitality #luxury #luxuryhospitality

JW Marriott is one of my Favorite brands in the Marriott International portfolio. Its Luxury, but not over the top. I particularly love it for one night layover stays, I know I will get a solid, comfortable bed, amazing suite, great food and quality amenities. For that one night, I don't want ostentatious luxury like St. Regis Hotels & Resorts because I am really tired or classic, refined luxury of my favorite The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, L.L.C., simply because I am exhausted to enjoy and soak it all in 1 night. Any stay above 3 days and more, I prefer that. And JW Marriott has a reputation for being reliable no matter which location. I liken this to owning a Chevrolet or Ford Motor Company cars, reliable and good quality!!! Recently, for my Birthday, I went to celebrate at JW resort for one night ( Another plus point for this brand is that they have a good mix of city and resort hotels). Even though I had a good time, food was lovely and service was great, I hated this JW for 2 reasons. First, it was a CONVERSION property which is a STRICT NO NO for me!!!For people like Anthony Capuano and Rajeev Menon who are only into the numbers game and want to expand Marriott Hotels come what may, conversion is the easiest way to go and again, very favorable to owners. Converting an existing property like Hilton or Hyatt Hotels Corporation to a MARRIOTT won't cost as much as building from scratch. But what guys like Tony and Rajeev don't realize, no, that's not fair, they know, but DON"T CARE!!!Let me rephrase that, what guys like Tony and Rajeev don't care about is DILUTING QUALITY!! Let's take this resort where I spent my birthday for instance. It was initially build as Crowne Plaza® Hotels & Resorts for IHG Hotels & Resorts and then rebranded to JW. Now crowne plaza is a premium brand and JW a Luxury. See the problem with this? Even a 5 year old kid would know, but Tony and Rajeev, they don't care. And it shows, the rooms are considerably smaller than what a typical JW would have and I resent that. Second reason why I don't like this JW was it had only 2 suites for a 115 room inventory. This is the case where Tony and Rajeev don't follow their own rules and relax protocol to increase number of hotels. Any JW Marriott in the world should have at least 20% of its inventory dedicated to suites. That's why its luxury. So when you have 2 suites out of 115, that's not 20 percent, that's less than 2% which is a travesty, but Tony and Rajeev don't care. As the World's greatest Ambassador elite of Marriott Bonvoy, I have been staying in SUITES every single day for the last 4 years and this is the first time I opted for a normal room, because even though the hotel was ready to give me a suite, it had the worst view. I came here for the valley view and that is best seen from the normal room. What an abomination of outstanding proportions. I feel sorry for those who pay for suites in that hotel. You pay a premium and you get crappy views. DO BETTER MARRIOTT!!
