Happy World Youth Skills Day! š¤¹āļø Did you know that success in your professional life largely depends on your family and skills learned as a child? Today, as we celebrate the importance of equipping young people with skills for employment, ERC grantee Pedro Carneiro from UCL reminds us of the urgency of investing in children to make sure they acquire the vital skills to secure better jobs and achieve success in life. His research on family dynamics and expenditure in impoverished communities reveals that without a solid foundation of skills acquired in childhood, it becomes more difficult to address skill deficiencies and their consequences in terms of (un)employment in adulthood. At ESN Panteion, our mission is to help students and promote mobility. But how do we exactly do that? All our actions are guided by 6 causes, 6 āareas ā where we would like to leave ourfootprint on. These are the six causes that ESN members advocate for on all levels of the organisation: culture, education & youth, environmental sustainability, health & well-being, skills & employability and social inclusion. Culture: One of ESNās values is unity in diversity, diversity in unity and our members work hard to provide opportunities for cultural understanding to both international and local members of their community. Education & Youth: ESN volunteers advocate for the internationalisation of education, for better mobility programmes, both in quantity as well as in quality. Educating young people on their right and opportunities and youth engagement is also a part of our job. For example, ESN volunteers organise mobility conferences and take part in youth fairs to increase the accessibility of information, as well as share their own mobility experience, in order to showcase how such an experience can be an investment into one's future. Social Inclusion: ESN believes in a more diverse Erasmus programme, which is why our members work hard to raise awareness about mobility opportunities for students for underrepresented groups. Secondly, we promote intercultural awareness and social engagement by connecting international students with local communities. Health & well being: All dimensions of health, physical, intellectual, emotional and social, are valued in our ESN community. Volunteers often organise sport related events, such as hiking, volleyball matches and dance classes. We strive to build a safe space of communication and encourage opennes and acceptance. Environmental Sustainability: Environmental sustainability is one of the major struggles of todayās society and, when it comes to this field, our members try to raise awareness about the repercussions of youth habits and lead by example. Skills & Employability: Through volunteering, ESNers get to develop hard and soft skills in multiple fields and harness attributes that are attractive to a competitive job market. At ESN Panteion, our actions are a mirror of these causes. Thatās why we make sure our activities, events and projects are guided by them and drive change in our community. #studentshelpingstudents #THISisESN #ESNcauses #ESNGreece #ESNPanteion #internationalstudents #ErasmusGeneration

Last week, we spent close to three hours with one of the top higher education institutions to discuss about their 2024 scholarship and bursary schemes for students. As a digital company, we leverage on thousands of student data points covering subject-level exam results, multiple academic qualifications, household income, student demographics and so forth to make a case that certain scholarship/bursary need to be adjusted (not necessarily monetary) to enable education to be more inclusive for more deserving students. Structuring the best offers is not always about the biggest scholarship award or lowest fees and decisions need not be made in the dark. Data helps illuminate our partners' strengths and shortcomings and how they can best make a positive impact on our future generations. Iām glad that today Uni Enrol is able to work hand in hand with our institution partner to plan and introduce new strategies that will empower more students to pursue higher education. š Breaking Down the Stigma of Scholarships š As I reflect on my educational journey, I can't help but think about the stigma often attached to scholarships. š Scholarships are not just financial aids; they're opportunities for growth, empowerment, and the pursuit of dreams. š Let's debunk some common myths and celebrate the incredible impact of scholarships on our lives. š¹ Myth #1: "Scholarships are only for the academically gifted." š Scholarships are diverse and cater to a wide range of talents, interests, and backgrounds. Whether you're a STEM enthusiast, an artist, an athlete, or passionate about community service, there's a scholarship out there for you. Scholarships recognize excellence in various forms. š¹ Myth #2: "Scholarships are charity handouts." š¤ Scholarships are investments in potential. They're offered by organizations that believe in your abilities, your potential to make a difference, and your dedication to your field. It's not just about receiving, but also giving back to your community and the world. š¹ Myth #3: "Scholarships are easy to get." šÆ Applying for scholarships can be competitive and challenging. It requires dedication, effort, and sometimes multiple attempts. However, the journey itself teaches invaluable skills like perseverance, resilience, and adaptability. š¹ Myth #4: "Scholarships diminish the value of hard work." šŖ Earning a scholarship doesn't take away from your hard work; it celebrates it! Scholarships are recognition of your dedication, commitment, and the impact you've had on your community and chosen field. Let's reframe the narrative around scholarships! š They are bridges to education, avenues for personal growth, and tools for breaking down financial barriers. Let's encourage everyone to explore scholarship opportunities, celebrate the achievements of scholarship recipients, and promote the idea that education is a path open to all. Have you been impacted by scholarships or know someone who has? Share your stories below, and let's continue the conversation! šš¬ #Scholarships #EducationForAll #BreakingBarriers #Empowerment

š A independent review of the Turing Scheme, the Department for Education's (DfE) flagship study abroad program launched in 2021, has highlighted that certain delivery methods may have inadvertently created obstacles for participants from disadvantaged backgrounds. š°Key concerns identified include initial uncertainty over funding availability, allocated funding amounts, and the timing of funding distribution. The report indicates that these factors contributed to a number of students withdrawing from the program and suggests that such issues "disproportionately affect participation among disadvantaged groups". š Although students from disadvantaged backgrounds represented two-fifths of the total 21,000 placements in the 2021/22 academic year, the report recommends that the DfE should increase funding for the most disadvantaged. It also suggests that bringing forward both the application and confirmation of outcome windows forward to address the challenges. #turingscheme #erasmus #dfe https://lnkd.in/eD4W9TQj

Sponsored by the National Scholarship Providers Association (NSPA), November is āNational Scholarship Month,ā a month-long campaign to encourage students to seek scholarship opportunities while recognizing the organizations and individuals who make scholarships available. Finding college scholarships can be overwhelming, but numerous resources are available to help students secure funding for their education. Here are some recommended places to start the search: ā¾ College Financial Aid Offices: The first place to check is the college or university a student plans to attend. Many institutions have scholarships specific to their students, and the financial aid office can provide information on these opportunities. ā¾Scholarship Search Engines and Databases: Websites like Fastweb, Scholarships.com, and Cappex offer vast databases of scholarships that students can search based on their qualifications and interests. ā¾Local Community Organizations: Many local organizations, clubs, and businesses offer scholarships for students from their community or members' children. Examples include Rotary Clubs, Lions Clubs, and local branches of national organizations. Always remember to be wary of scams and never pay for scholarship searches. Genuine scholarships won't ask for application fees. Students need to do due diligence when researching and applying for scholarships. By applying wisely, building confidence, and getting it right, I help students on their journey to college admission success. LAUNCH OF THE CAMPUS AMBASSADOR PROGRAM ON WORLD š YOUTH SKILLS DAY ā”ļø Across Western, Eastern and Southern Africa, adolescents and youth face multiple challenges in learning and making the transition from school and higher education into the workforce. ā”ļø These obstacles include a mismatch between skills development and opportunities, a lack of access to flexible, accredited and recognized learning opportunities and a lack of decent work opportunities for youth. ā”ļø Adolescent girls and young women, youth with disabilities, displaced youth and youth from lower wealth quintiles and rural areas are often disadvantaged. ā”ļø Many young people lack secondary education skills: in the region, only 33% of adolescents complete lower secondary, which drops to 24% completing upper secondary. In addition, most young people lack the digital skills to thrive in future labour markets. š„š„š„š„š„š„ It is on this premise that we launch the STEMi Campus Ambassador Program for tertiary students to create work opportunities that will transition students into the labor market in the next ten years. ā”ļø This represents an enormous opportunity and a pivotal moment to transform the lives of millions of youth and drive sustainable development and inclusive economic growth across the region. More information ā¹ļø coming soon. #stemimakersafrica #wysd2024 #campusambassadorprogram
