Join UCL for a pivotal workshop aimed at enhancing inclusive participant recruitment practices in ageing and dementia-related research. Black, South Asian, and other minoritised ethnic groups in the UK face a significantly higher risk of developing dementia, yet they are vastly underrepresented in research studies. This disparity limits our ability to provide tailored advice, improve healthcare quality, and develop effective interventions. On May 21st, 2024, UCL is hosting roundtable discussions with key stakeholders, including researchers, NHS trust representatives, funders, and community leaders from Black and South Asian communities. Researchers are looking to speak with: - People from Black or South Asian backgrounds who have been affected by dementia (but do not have dementia themselves), for example having a close friend or family member with dementia. - Community groups who support people affected by dementia from Black and South Asian backgrounds. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced yesterday that the Preeclampsia Foundation’s Take 10 for Preeclampsia Research program has been selected as a top 10 finalist in its Build Underserved Populations (UP) Trust Challenge. The national competition seeks to identify and support new and promising community-based strategies that leverage engagement to build trust and help increase participation by historically underserved populations (UP) in disease research and the adoption of medical care to detect, treat, and monitor diseases, conditions, and disorders. The Take 10 for Preeclampsia Research program, launched in May 2023, serves as a call-to-action designed by and for Black women to share their birth experiences with researchers through their enrollment in the foundation’s Preeclampsia Registry. As a Build UP Trust Challenge finalist, the Take 10 program will receive $45,000 to fuel engagement activities to reach communities hardest hit by adverse outcomes and encourage women to share their experiences: https://lnkd.in/efxGZC7P #AllInToTake10 #BlackMamasMatter #MaternalHealth

Knowledge is power, especially when it comes to your health! Why accessibility matters: - Empowerment: Awareness enables people to make informed decisions and take charge of their well-being. - Inclusion: Everyone has a right to equal access to health information. - The European Accessibility Act: This upcoming legislation emphasizes the importance of clear and accessible healthcare information. Our Partnership with Prostate Cancer Research UK: A Real-World Example We're proud to partner with Prostate Cancer Research UK, who share our commitment to accessible information. By integrating ReadSpeaker's webReader and docReader on their website, they offer users: - Lifelike Text-to-Speech (TTS) - Accessible PDFs & Word Documents This is just one example of how accessible information can empower individuals to take control of their health. Let's work together to make health information a right, not a privilege! #WorldHealthDay #HealthForAll #HealthcareAccessibility #ReadSpeaker #Empowerment #Inclusion

The ReaCH event is like a health research mixer, blending different disciplines to whip up holistic health solutions – now that's a recipe for success! As a Mind-Body Medicine (MBM) enthusiast and a somatic therapy advocate, I'm all for these mix-and-match approaches. They're not just about shaking hands across disciplines; they're also about giving mental health the VIP seat it deserves in the health world. Looking ahead, I'm rooting for health research to keep playing matchmaker with diverse fields. When mental health and somatic practices join the party, the result is more than just understanding issues; it's about crafting whole-person solutions. Think of it as health research doing a bit of yoga – stretching to include physical, mental, and societal well-being. Kudos to ReaCH for spotlighting this collaborative groove! I'm jazzed up about seeing more of these holistic health shindigs that bring mind, body, and society together for a healthier tomorrow. Here's to more research raves that hit all the right notes!
📢 Our Research Centre for Health (ReaCH) is holding an event to showcase the importance of partnership working in turning research into action. ReaCH, in the School of Health and Life Sciences, is home to 10 different research groups working across different disciplines. It aims to find new ways of tackling health conditions that may affect us all, from stroke to cancer, to substance use, women’s health issues and infections. Attendees will enjoy a series of interactive workshops from some of the Centre’s key researchers that will demonstrate how our research is already changing and improving lives. https://lnkd.in/edTeHCS2
