- [Instructor] You've reached the end of your message and said what you needed to say. Now it's time to put the finishing touches on your email. A well-written email should be like a sandwich, with the opening and closing greetings as the bread and the body of the message as the filling. Just as you start the email with a greeting and social nicety to set the tone, you should finish with another social nicety and an appropriate closing to end on the same note. And as with the opening, the closing you use depends on whether the email is formal or informal. As I mentioned earlier, if there is a date or important action item you want the reader to remember, it's a good idea to repeat it at the end of the email, just before your friendly closing sentence. In a formal email, this could be something like, "I look forward to receiving the project report." Or, "I look forward to receiving your RSVP for the conference by December 5th."
