August 1st is the Marine Protected Areas Day (MPA Day)! It’s a day to share stories and information about why and how we need to conserve our oceans and keep building support for MPAs. Marine Protected Area Day is a powerful opportunity to bring local and global attention to the importance of protected areas in the ocean, the need to properly manage the MPAs we already have, and the need to increase the protection of ocean space. In fact, MPAs are one of the main means to achieve marine conservation targets. Let's share your MPA story on social media. Let's share your photos & videos!

Amphibian and aquatic species experts from Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance and Colorado Parks and Wildlife team up to release 2,200 endangered boreal toad tadpoles! In 2021, the Zoo launched a new initiative aimed at boosting the state’s population of boreal toads, a species listed as endangered in Colorado and New Mexico, in collaboration with Colorado Parks and Wildlife (CPW). Starting with 95 adult toads from CPW’s Native Aquatic Species Restoration Facility in Alamosa, the Zoo's amphibian experts spent more than six months preparing them for breeding and nurturing their offspring leading up to their release into the wild. The Zoo has been conserving endangered and critically endangered amphibian species for more than 18 years. In 2018, DZCA became the first zoo in the Northern Hemisphere to successfully breed critically endangered Lake Titicaca frogs and has since provided more than 250 healthy frogs to zoos and aquariums in the U.S. and Europe.
