Last week I was privileged to host our Chairman of the Board, David Marriott, on his most recent visit to EMEA taking in Malta, Hungary, Spain and the UK. It’s always a pleasure to spend time with David, who embodies the people-first culture his grandfather instilled in this company from the first day, 97 years ago!
Our first event was actually on the 97th anniversary of Marriott – on Monday, 20 May, we celebrated the official inauguration of the Malta Marriott Hotel & Spa and we were honoured to welcome Prime Minister
Dr Robert Abela and Clayton Bartolo, Minister of Tourism, to join us. We then moved onto another fantastic addition to our portfolio: in Budapest, we attended the spectacular official opening of the Dorothea Hotel, Budapest, Autograph Collection.
In Spain, we had the pleasure of touring and meeting teams at The Westin Palace, Madrid plus the JW Marriott Hotel Madrid and The Madrid EDITION, and the opportunity to connect with our Northern and Southern Spain Business Councils. There was also time for a meeting with Isabel Diaz Ayuso, President of Comunidad de Madrid, and José Luis Martínez-Almeida Navasqüés, Mayor of Madrid, to discuss our shared objective of enhancing Madrid’s thriving tourism industry.
And finally, to London, for a reception with our UK&I area team, Business Council leaders and our London-based General Managers and Hotel Managers.
A busy week, but I’m filled with pride at leading a team that continues to raise the bar, put people first and serve our world. Thank you, David, for your continuous support and inspiration, and thank you to everyone involved in delivering a fantastic week of events.
