Venerdì 25 ottobre 2024 abbiamo ospitato un importante incontro organizzato da HR con la collaborazione di Farmindustria che ha visto la partecipazione delle Segreterie Nazionali e Provinciali delle Organizzazioni Sindacali di Categoria, della RSU aziendale e la presenza di Confindustria Catania in qualità di ospite istituzionale. Questa occasione, introdotta dal nostro CEO Fabrizio Chines, ha rappresentato un momento di formazione, dialogo e confronto su temi fondamentali per il settore farmaceutico, con l’obiettivo di condividere visioni e costruire solide relazioni. Second chapter of #AKtivity run - another milestone for the team. We will continue to raise awareness of this awful, rare, painful and debilitating disease, Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK). Thank you Jelle Kleijn !!
Last Sunday, together with a group of very committed people, we achieved something very special. Running to the end of the road up to ETNA, starting at our company SIFI. Why? when we started one year ago to play with the idea of raising awareness of the awful disease Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK), through a run. ETNA was immediately involved. - SIFI Headquarters is based on the foot of ETNA, so this volcanic mountain is in our corporate DNA. - Running uphill for such a long time (30km!), would be symbolic for the uphill battle patients with AK are fighting every day. - Getting as high as we can, reaching the finish, would only be possible if we rely on the people around us, to support us in achieving our goal. Which is much like patients are completely rely on their family and friends to support them to get back out of the dark. - Finally, and only I realized this when talking with Juliette Vila Sinclair-Spence from the Acanthamoeba Keratitis Eye Foundation, the ETNA, as a Volcano is a symbol for how the eye feels when AK has infected it, making it feel like it can burst at any time. So, when we successfully organized the first #AKtivity run with many colleagues, friends and family participating in Catania on 22 September, we committed to run ETNA one week after. This meant an early Sunday morning start, and immediately going uphill getting out of the SIFI parking. We ran for hours, with long parts of over 10% incline. But in the end, 30km and 1350m higher, we reached the finish all together! So proud of the team! Certainly, when realizing many of us had never exceeded 10km on our practice runs! Guess what they say is true: if you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together! This was a team effort. Next year much more #AKtivity! We will continue to raise awareness of this awful, rare, painful and debilitating disease. Yesterday SIFI organized the first AKtivity run to raise awareness of Acanthamoeba keratitis (AK). AK is an awful disease, that often is misdiagnosed, before finally the disease is recognized as being caused by the Acanthamoeba. This process often takes to much time, which is directly affecting the hope of a good outcome of treatment. AK should be on the forefront of every eye-care professionals mind who is working with people who wear contact lenses. Awareness is key! Until recently there was no approved treatment. SIFI changed that! We at SIFI will not stop until also the level of awareness of this devastating disease is changed. It fills me with so much joy to see how many colleagues joined. We had over 60 registered. I am extremely proud to see that they brought their parents, kids, brothers, sisters, and even their dogs, to run with us on the boulevard in Catania. Our home city. To run or walk the 5km together. This is just the beginning. Just the first #AKtivity. MUCH More to come!
