The research project aim to produce Se-enriched dairy products and cheese as functional food through Se-biofortified alfalfa hay for feeding milking cows. Se4All public-private collaboration includes 5 research institutes providing the scientific know-how for the Se biofortification nutritive solution, open-field application and cows feeding, elaboration of dairy products at laboratory scale and the chemometrics competences required for unravelling the information (UNIR1); a synchrotron user facility with unique speciation capabilities an organic cheese manufacturer company for marketing the products.

🌱 🐄Se4All Overall Meeting at UAB🍼 🌱 🥬Today, we gathered at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) for the Se4All overall meeting, a pivotal moment for our project dedicated to advancing sustainable food production through innovative research and collaboration. Our main objective is optimizing the concentration and bioavailability of Selenium in milk and dairy products.✌️ 🥬Our vision: Fighting the health issues derived from Se-deficient diets by producing Se-enriched dairy products from Se-biofortified hay, introduced as a natural source of nutrients into the milking cows’ diet. 🥬Our technology: The elaboration of Se-biofortified functional foods from edible plants through Se-enrichment methodologies has been proposed as an alternative solution. 🟢During the meeting, it was discussed: 🗂WP2: Introduction, general status and implementation, secondments, tasks, scientific breakthroughs, and successes achieved, presented by INTA WP leader Mónica Gaggiotti.🥬 🗂WP3: Introduction, general status, and implementation, presented by Erica Schmidt, Victoria Ferragut , and Toni Trujillo.🥬 🗂WP4: Introduction, general status, and implementation, presented by Kate Kate Carmody and Alessandro Tiraborelli. 🗂WP5: Communication and dissemination, results and publications, and communication activities, presented by REDINN ’s Alessandro Tiraborelli .🥬 🎉This meeting was a fantastic opportunity to review our progress, share our achievements, and plan the next steps for our project. Professors, researchers, and students from UAB, Sapienza Università di Roma, INTI , and INTA joined us with great enthusiasm. 🌪This visit was a fantastic opportunity for knowledge transfer on best practices in the circular economy and showcased UAB’s pioneering activities in the analysis of innovative dairy products. 🥛🔬 Key highlights included: ✅️ Sustainable Food Production: Research activities crucial for transforming food production towards more sustainable practices. ✅️ Protected Designation of Origin (PDO): In-depth discussions on PDO issues related to on-site dairy products, exploring commercialization potential and challenges at both national and European levels.
