Investments in the wind turbine recycling plants of RenerCycle in Falces and Waste2Fiber in Lumbier, both in NAVARRE, have been declared of regional interest 🍀 The Government of Navarre has agreed in its session on Wednesday to declare as investments of regional interest the project of the company ACCIONA in Lumbier to promote a recycling plant for wind turbine blades and the initiative promoted by the company RenerCycle in Falces, focused on the dismantling of wind power generation facilities and the reconditioning and repair of components from this type of facilities. These two projects will lead to the creation of 180 jobs through a total investment of 21 M€. The Minister of Industry and Ecological and Digital Business Transition of the Government of Navarre, Mikel Irujo Amezaga, has stated that "both projects are aimed at promoting high value-added activities in terms of industrial development and the offer of innovative products and services in the renewable energy sector, with a special impact on the economy of the Foral Community". "They thus connect with the S4 smart specialisation strategy, in its line of work to promote renewable energies, and with the Agenda for the development of the Circular Economy in Navarre 2030. In addition, as they are located outside the metropolitan area of Pamplona, they contribute to the objectives of territorial cohesion and the fight against depopulation," he stressed.

Yesterday Diario de Navarra published an interesting article on the blade recycling plant that ACCIONA, ACCIONA Energía and RenerCycle will build in the Navarrese town of Lumbier. 🔄 It is currently feasible to recycle or reuse around 90% of the materials in a wind turbine. Most of the components are made from materials such as steel, copper, aluminum, cast iron, concrete, and plastics that already have fully established recycling chains. 🔄 However, to date, it has been a challenge to implement effective and efficient recycling techniques with circular economy criteria for rotor blades, as they are made up of composite materials which present the greatest problem for recycling, due to the nature of their components (usually thermoset resins and continuous glass and/or carbon fibers). 🔄 The new facility will operate under an innovative continuous thermal recycling technology, developed in-house, under controlled temperature and atmosphere conditions, which will allow the recovery of the composite materials contained in the blades for their transformation into secondary raw materials with high added value that can be introduced into new production processes, with quality comparable to virgin raw materials. #sustainability #circulareconomy #windpower https://lnkd.in/d4psxPy6
