  • Poland: HAGRIC Woźniecki and PIC sign distribution agreement for PIC genetics HAGRIC Woźniecki sp. z o.o. sp. k., a leading company in the marketing and transport of livestock and slaughter animals, and PIC (Pig Improvement Company), the world's leading pig breeding company, have announced a strategic distribution partnership. The aim of the partnership is to distribute PIC genetics in Poland and to further improve the quality and efficiency of pig breeding in the country. HAGRIC, based in Szczeglino, has established itself as one of the market leaders in the 27 years of its existence. The company buys, sells and transports breeding and slaughter animals in Poland and abroad. As a company with entirely Polish capital, it is a leader both in the import of piglets and in the contracting, buying and selling of fattening pigs. Hagric employs over 300 qualified staff. It has a fleet of more than 100 vehicles for transporting animals, its own service and a specialised lorry wash. Cereal trading, both feed and food, and the purchase and sale of cattle are also part of the company's activities. Hagric's services are comprehensive and professional. PIC has been working on the continuous improvement of pig genetics for more than 60 years. The distribution partnership with HAGRIC will enable PIC's high quality genetics to be sold to Polish pig farmers, thereby improving local pig breeding in a sustainable way.   "This partnership is an important step for both companies," said Sylwester Wozniecki, CEO of HAGRIC, at the signing of the agreement on 25 June at HAGRIC's headquarters in Szczeglino. "By combining our extensive market knowledge and infrastructure with PIC's internationally recognised genetics, we will be able to offer the best breeding solutions to our customers in Poland." Dr Thomas Mueller, Key Account Manager responsible for initiating this cooperation, added: "We are very pleased to be working with HAGRIC. Their many years of experience and strong presence in the Polish market make them the ideal partner to successfully distribute our genetics and take pig breeding in the country to a new level".   Polish piglet producers will have access to the full PIC breeding programme and the first Camborough® gilts have already been delivered from a PIC multiplication farm in the Czech Republic. PIC terminal boars, such as PIC®800 or PIC®337, are housed at the INSEFARM AI Stud, complementing the PIC portfolio available to Polish pig producers. • 🐖 Did you know traits like fear and boldness show heritability allowing selection?👩🔬 Experts from Scotland (SRUC) in collaboration with PIC found genetic links between aggression levels in different body areas - pigs with more anterior lesions were bolder with people.🐷 Selection for reduced aggression may result in easier weighing handling. But any behavioural selection requires careful consideration, as context is important.💪   Further research could help validate any selection impacts production positively without side effects.
