Still think #composites are only for dream cars 🚗✨, aircraft ✈️ or luxury bicycles 🚴♂️? Composites have many other fields of application and one of them is construction 🏗️. Thanks to their unlimited design possibilities 🎨, architects have a much wider range of possibilities when incorporating composites into the composition of buildings 🏢. #ManagingComposites #TheNativeLab

Did you know that Thomas Edison chose carbon fiber filaments to develop his famous light bulb 💡 ❓ While Edison didn’t invent the light bulb itself, he was the first to make a commercially viable one that didn’t burn out shortly after being turned on 🔥       His first big success was on October 22, 1879, when his bulb lasted 13 and a half hours before burning out. On November 4 of the same year, he applied for a patent for a lamp using “a coiled and connected #carbon filament,” and the rest is history. He eventually got his bulbs to last over 1,200 hours.      However, the bulbs that became popular never used carbon filaments. Want to know what material eventually became popular for glowing inside incandescent bulbs?      Check out our blog to find out: 👉 https://lnkd.in/d8vMGvjm

📢 It's Friday, so it's time for our When The Shit Hits The Fan post 📢    In this case we can see the Alinghi Red Bull Racing boat that is going to be participating in the 37th America's Cup. These types of high-performance boats are made of composite materials to achieve the highest possible performance.    ⛵ In the video we see how the mast collapses in a maneuver that puts maximum stress on the components of the structure. Incidents like these are part of a sport in which the quest for the highest possible performance pushes all elements to the limit of their capacities.    Fortunately, no crew members were injured, and the team's hard work resulted in the boat being ready again just three days after the incident. The level of speed and performance that these boats achieve propelled solely by the force of the wind is quite incredible! 🚀

Why is carbon fiber applied in different directions❓     #Carbonfiber is an anisotropic material, which means that its mechanical properties depend on the orientation of the fibers.     That is why we see how in this video the fiber is applied in different directions, as this will give different characteristics to the wing being built in terms of stiffness and bending capacity in different vectors ↖ ↗     This is a fundamental element when designing a part that is to be manufactured in carbon fiber, since with the same weight, material and thickness, the desired mechanical characteristics can be achieved by modifying the direction of the fibers.     Credit: @Fictiv Youtube

♻ MC4 Project ♻   How can a circular process be applied to composite materials?    The industry has been surrendering to the advantages of composite materials for a long time and they are being used more and more. 🌍 That is why it is essential to apply circularity to their life cycle, so that the sustainability of these materials extends beyond the useful life of the solutions they make up.    That is why at Managing Composites we are part of MC4, a project funded by the European Union 🇪🇺 in the form of an alliance with other companies in the sector to develop circular approaches for carbon and glass fiber #composites.    By doing this, composites are looking to overcome one of the biggest challenges they face: to remain sustainable even after the end of their useful life.

📢 MC CLASSICS! 📢    What better way to see what's inside a Formula 1 car than by splitting it in half? 😮    Let's remember when Sauber F1 Team mechanics used their downtime to cut a Formula 1 race car down the middle with the precision of true craftsmen. Check out the amazing result! 🕵🏻♂️    In this video, their chief designer literally gets under the skin of the F1 car, pointing out where and how each component is located within the chassis. Everything is pretty tightly packed. Even (a very young) Sergio Pérez shows up to demonstrate the driver's seating position! 🤩    A big KUDOS to the team! Insane video! 😎    Source: Sauber Motorsport's YouTube channel
