Let's Define - Cross-Cultural Design - Delivered! Walking in, I had no idea what was in store. And now, after attending the third edition of the Let’s Define conference series this past Saturday, I’ve taken the time to digest the insights shared. Building on the Intercultural Communications course I completed this summer and approaching two years since moving to Barcelona, the event resonated with me. Each speaker offered a unique perspective, focusing on community building, cultural integration, and global design thinking: ✨ Fernanda G. shared her projects like City Girls Barcelona, highlighting vulnerability as a strength for building connections, fostering trust, and bridging diverse communities. Her call to action encourages individuals to get involved, create personal projects, and consider the impact and legacy we leave. ✨ Camilo Andrés Roa Ruiz & Juan Pablo Mejía from Réplica delivered a thought-provoking talk covering Algorithms, the Pluriverse, Rabbit Holes, their Remote Global Team, Political & Social Alignment, the Voice of Designers, Cultural Balance in Design, and the Importance of Personal Networks. As designers committed to amplifying voices, they explored how to navigate a noisy, interconnected world while maintaining political and social coherence. ✨ Mahal De La Durantaye focused on creating across borders, drawing from her multicultural background. She emphasised the importance of understanding high and low-context cultures and cultural relativity, highlighting the need for cultural intelligence that goes beyond language to grasp deeper nuances of communication styles and contexts. ✨ Elena Alekseeva shared her expertise in designing global events that resonate across cultures, emphasising the importance of ensuring attendees feel seen, included, and understood. If you’ve been to OFFF you know her work! ✨ Imani N. centred her talk on integrating youth culture, diversity, and community into DAR Studio, the creative agency she co-founded. Her focus on authenticity, cultural heritage, and community-building showcased how creativity thrives when rooted in diversity and collaboration. A very bright future ahead for her! It was a day of great new connections. Wonderful to meet Carla Alaimo Oliveira, Orkhon (Oko) Enkhsiakhan, Francesca Fabian, Mike Shishkin, Roma, Kirill Danchenko, Veronika Fazekas, Camilo & Juan, and Lukas Yonis Abubeker. Huge kudos to Astroshock, Kidults, and Embacy for organising such a fantastic event. 🌍 A truly cross-cultural experience 🌍 #LetsDefine #designconference #culturaldiversity #globaldesign #designcommunity #Barcelona

Have you ever wondered how “common” is common sense 🤔? This intriguing question will be the topic of our round table conversation Sometimes, what seems like ‘common sense’ to us may be perceived as unusual or by others from different cultures, and we may not fully understand the cultural roots behind certain behaviors from colleagues or clients. Let’s dive into it and explore how cultural backgrounds influence our assumptions, interactions, and collaborations. Still on time to grab a chair for Let’s Define conference this Saturday 😎🌟 https://www.letsdefine.io/
