As a Research Professor, she focuses on the rational design and synthesis of nanoparticles and nanocomposites, investigating their structural and (bio)functional properties. Welcome Andrés Márquez at ICMAB Hello, my name is Andrés, and I am from the Venezuelan Andes, a beautiful mountainous place where not only “Frailejones” grow, but also dreams and hopes. I have a degree in Chemistry and also another in Chemical Engineering, with a master's degree in Pharmaceutical Chemistry from Universidad de Los Andes (ULA-VE), specialized in synthesis, formulation and technological transfer of bioactive molecules and biomaterials, with biomedical or pharmaceutical applications. I have extensive experience in the pharmaceutical industry leading R&D&i areas and projects, as well as in the industrial production. Here at ICMAB I will be working in the NANOMOL-BIO group. On 3 June I had the opportunity to visit the INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB-CSIC) at the Bellaterra Campus. During the visit, we explored laboratories where solar cells are studied and manufactured, organic transistor manufacturing techniques and observed crystalline and organic structures using different microscopes. I thank the Clúster de Materials Avançats de Catalunya for this enriching opportunity.

Today we publish an important result from our research "Hybrid solar energy device for simultaneous electric power generation and molecular solar thermal energy storage" in the journal Joule https://lnkd.in/gFf-te2g The work feature a hybrid device based of a A Si-based photovoltaic cell with a MOST energy storage system on top. the MOST solution store UV and visible light, achieving 2.3% solar storage efficiency the MOST solution act as an optical filter, cooling the PV by 8°C and boosts PV cell efficiency.    • The hybrid device achieves 14.9% solar efficiency, surpassing the sum of the efficiency of the individual devices the work sets a new record efficiency in liquid MOST systems and illustrate a new way to increase performance and add storage to solar cells. [ACADÈMIA MAV 🎓] 🔌 El Clúster MAV clou el curs d’electrònica impresa amb el lliurament de diplomes als alumnes ✨ El #ClústerMAV ha finalitzat amb èxit la primera edició del curs de formació en electrònica impresa! 🎉 Aquest curs, el primer impulsat per l'Acadèmia MAV, s’ha desenvolupat de març a juliol i ha comptat amb la participació de 61 alumnes entusiastes. 📅 Cloenda del curs: dimecres 10 de juliol, al TecnoCampus de Mataró, vam celebrar la cerimònia de lliurament de diplomes. A l'acte hi van assistir una trentena de persones i vam poder reconèixer l’esforç dels nostres alumnes, dels quals el 85% han aprovat amb èxit! 🙌 🔹Ona Bombí Aymerich, Clúster Mànager del Clúster MAV, va presentar els resultats del curs i el paper del Clúster en la interacció i col·laboració entre membres. Promoting Polysulfide Redox Reactions through Electronic Spin Manipulation Advances on LSBs Sulfur Cathodes Congrats Yu Jing and all collaborators within #InCAEM project between Institut Català de Nanociència i Nanotecnologia (ICN2), IREC - Institut de Recerca en Energia de Catalunya, ALBA Synchrotron, ICREA - Institució Catalana de Recerca i Estudis Avançats & INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB-CSIC) Another successful collaboration with andreu cabot! Abstract: Catalytic additives able to accelerate the lithium–sulfur redox reaction are a key component of sulfur cathodes in lithium–sulfur batteries (LSBs). Their design focuses on optimizing the charge distribution within the energy spectra, which involves refinement of the distribution and occupancy of the electronic density of states. Herein, beyond charge distribution, we explore the role of the electronic spin configuration on the polysulfide adsorption properties and catalytic activity of the additive. We showcase the importance of this electronic parameter by generating spin polarization through a defect engineering approach based on the introduction of Co vacancies on the surface of CoSe nanosheets. We show vacancies change the electron spin state distribution, increasing the number of unpaired electrons with aligned spins. This local electronic rearrangement enhances the polysulfide adsorption, reducing the activation energy of the Li–S redox reactions. As a result, more uniform nucleation and growth of Li2S and an accelerated liquid–solid conversion in LSB cathodes are obtained. These translate into LSB cathodes exhibiting capacities up to 1089 mA h g–1 at 1 C with 0.017% average capacity loss after 1500 cycles, and up to 5.2 mA h cm–2, with 0.16% decay per cycle after 200 cycles in high sulfur loading cells. Yesterday, at the #IEEENANO2024 International Conference in Xixón, I presented the results of a collaboration we lead from NANOTECH SOLUTIONS with the group of Kostas Simeonidis in Thessaloniki, Lluis Balcells at INSTITUT DE CIÈNCIA DE MATERIALS DE BARCELONA (ICMAB-CSIC) and Francisco Jose Teran from IMDEA Nanociencia. Our fast and simple method offers high sensitivity to address reaction kinetics and the characterization of nanoadsorbents in drinking water treatment, promising significant advances in environmental remediation.
