Remote monitoring of heart failure patients - Innovation action from Universitat Pompeu Fabra

FORESEE - Novel microsensing platform for remote patient monitoring Chronic heart failure is a relentless condition, affecting millions and straining healthcare resources. With a 5-year mortality rate of 50 % and annual costs exceeding US 30 000 per patient, it is a pressing healthcare dilemma. Patients’ lives are burdened by frequent hospitalisations and a high mortality rate. In this context, the EIC-funded FORESEE project will develop implantable microsensing devices. The key to this transformative approach lies in the development of ultra-thin and flexible implantable devices that lack bulky components or batteries. Powered wirelessly, the microsensors promise to revolutionise chronic heart failure monitoring, improving patient care. The focus of FORESEE is to bring this innovative sensing platform from concept to reality. The FORESEE project has received the Transition Open grant from the European Innovation Council (EIC). This is a 2.5 M€ grant, with a duration of 3 years (Grant agreement ID: 101136633). FORESEE is a project developed and managed from the Biomedical Electronics Research Group of Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Barcelona - Spain).

👉 Last week, I had the privilege of visiting Boston and exploring the incredible innovation hubs that are shaping the future of healthcare. It was an inspiring journey filled with new ideas, insights, and connections, and the opportunity to show what our team at FORESEE is doing for remote monitoring of heart failure patients. 🚀 I had the chance to participate in different sessions organized at the Massachusetts Office of International Trade and Investment (MOITI), Jones Day, MassChallenge, Innoventures, the Mayor’s Office of Economic Opportunity & Inclusion of the City of Boston, MIT Sloan, MIT Engine Ventures, Harvard iLab, MassBio, MIT Media Lab, LabCentral, and CIC. 🌟 A huge thank you to the organizers for putting together such a well-curated and impactful experience. Maria Mora and all the team of Foment del Treball Nacional, the U.S. Consulate General Barcelona; and Robert Negre and the rest of the team from ACCIÓ (Friday's session was great!). Many thanks to all the team of LEVEL Airlines for an amazing flight and to all the speakers for their time and insights. 💪 I also want to extend my gratitude to everyone who joined me on this trip. Ahir al matí, la vintena d'emprenedores que participen en el programa Jump Startup for Women in Deeptech, Biotech i Healthtech -que organitzem juntament amb Foment del Treball Nacional- han presentat els seus projectes a inversors, empresaris i actors clau d'aquests sectors econòmics en el Demo Day previ a la missió empresarial a Boston que tindrà lloc al setembre. Els seus projectes donen resposta a reptes en matèria sanitària del nostre dia a dia i que, gràcies al seu talent i esperit emprenedor, aquestes emprenedores esperen contribuir a solucionar. Last Wednesday the FORESEE project coordinator Laura Becerra-Fajardo, Phd pitched our work in the Xartec Salut Venture Builder Program #PitchDay to four investors: - CRB Health Tech SGEIC - Clave Capital - Nara Capital - Grow Venture Partners It was a great opportunity to create connections with investors for the future spin-off from Universitat Pompeu Fabra - EnginyEria UPF. Congratulations to all the participants for finishing this program and to the organizers for making it a very valuable experience. Yesterday we celebrated the final session of our Venture Builder Program at Norrsken Barcelona! The legal block of the #Jump4Women masterclasses just finished. #Jump4Women, organized by Foment del Treball Nacional and U.S. Consulate General Barcelona, has offered 20 entrepreneurs, including our project coordinator Laura Becerra-Fajardo, Phd, brilliant classes of legal aspects related to entrepreneurship. Congratulations to Júlia Rousaud, from RCD, for the effort done to explain all the details related to technology transfer from univeristies and research centers, talent management strategies, negotiation with investors, and negotiation models. FORESEE also participated in the tour by the Parc Científic de Barcelona. It is amazing what very good management and vision can do to the healthtech ecosystem.

Masterclass & Tours al #Jump4Women Finalitzem el bloc de masterclasses legals del #Jump4Women. D’entrada un aplaudiment i un reconeixement a la brillant tasca efectuada per la Júlia Rousaud de RCD. Hem pres molts apunts de totes les qüestions que ens has plantejat! Aquí un resum de les sessions i els temes tractats: - Interacció entre startups, spin-offs, centres de recerca i universitats: Vam explorar com la connexió entre tots els actors pot accelerar el desenvolupament tecnològic i facilitar el pas del coneixement acadèmic al mercat. Marc normatiu de les empreses basades en el coneixement; aspectes regulatoris, que es la transferència de tecnologia, acords amb universitats públiques, la creació d’empreses dsd l’entorn públic de recerca, contracte de transferència, pacte de socis.. En aquesta sessió també vam comptar amb Alberto Ouro Fuente, Gràcies! - Talent management strategies: Vam aprofundir en les noves tendències de retribució variable, destacant la importància de la meritocràcia, la innovació i la creativitat en els RRHH. Es va debatre sobre com les recompenses han d'estar vinculades no només al rendiment individual sinó també al col·lectiu, i alineades amb l'evolució de l'empresa. - Negociació amb inversors: Vam tractar les tècniques de negociació, un aspecte clau per a qualsevol emprenedor que busca finançament. Es va discutir com mantenir l'equilibri entre satisfer les expectatives dels inversors i protegir els interessos dels fundadors, així com la importància d'estructurar acords que suportin l'escalabilitat a llarg termini de l'empresa. - Models de negociació amb corporacions. Internacionalització i exits. Vam abordar els processos d’innovació oberta i com totes les parts han de saber trobar l’equilibri per col.laborar plegats. Es van examinar els diferents models d’internacionalització així com les casuístiques i els diferents estadis en la compra de startups. Julia, mil gràcies per tot. 🌟 Yesterday a huge journey came to an end in the EIT Health Women Entrepreneurship Bootcamp. Three weeks of intensive training program with excellent professionals that gave 10 start-ups and future spin-offs (as FORESEE - UPF) several tools and strategies to navigate through our entrepreneurial journey. Apart from the knowledge we obtained, it was a great opportunity to meet with entrepreneurs of several countries of Europe and the UK. It was an amazing experience to share thoughs and ideas with them... and many laughs too! The FORESEE team is extremely grateful with EIT Health for selecting us for this bootcamp. The "babies" of this cohort are now even more motivated to continue with this journey. 🚀 Thanks to the organisers and speakers. It was well worth the time invested in this bootcamp! (EIT Health, Instituto Pedro Nunes, Neil Ferguson, Luca Venza, Marianne Engel, Jorge Pimenta, Rosemary Gallagher, Meike Bomhof, Clara Luxo Correia, IESE Business School and the rest of the team).
