🆕📰 Decarbonizing the Glass Industry | An insight into decarbonized melting technology Alexandre Brusset, Vice President – Glass at Fives, shares his view on decarbonised technology with Glass International. We have just installed an all-electric furnace that is carbon neutral and capable of producing high quality glass bottles at Verallia's Châteaubernard plant in Cognac. It is the first electric furnace for Verallia and it is the largest all-electric furnace for food packaging in the world. And at the same time, we were entrusted to provide our hybrid furnace to O-I’s Veauche facilty in France. Once in place, the furnace will be 70% electric-fired with the remainder from combustion. 🆕 Lhyfe and Fives team up to provide a comprehensive solution for decarbonizing industrial combustion processes. Leveraging Lhyfe's expertise in green hydrogen production and Fives' advanced industrial combustion technology, the partnership aims to significantly reduce CO2 emissions. For example, using hydrogen instead of natural gas in a secondary aluminum furnace can cut annual CO2 emissions by over 4000 tonnes. This initiative will target the metals, glass, and cement industries in Europe and North America, driving a significant reduction in carbon footprints and advancing the green cement movement. Green cement is gaining traction as a key player in sustainable construction. By utilizing byproducts like fly ash and blast furnace slag, green cement production reduces CO2 emissions significantly—by up to 40% compared to traditional methods. Lhyfe and Fives' collaboration will further this progress by integrating green hydrogen into industrial processes, exemplifying how innovation can lead to more sustainable industrial practices.
