🤔 What is a search fund ? How could it help me to learn about finance❓ 🧐Is it useful to give my first steps into my dream finance career? 💡 The search fund is a vehicle used to practice "entrepreneurship through acquisition". The searcher, who is the leader of this fund, seeks to buy just one existing business and run it as a CEO. It is an amazing way to break into the industry since: 👉 SF tends to hire many interns to help in the search process 👉 You can enter even if you are in your 1st and 2nd year at uni, and we highly recommend it as a first internship experience. 👉 Right now, there is a growing number of search funds in Spain . 👉 The recruitment process is not as long and strict as in the bulge bracket/elite boutique banks (generally) 👉 It is a wonderful first work experience that could help you to start analyzing businesses, understand market dynamics, start modeling, and keep up with the considerable amount of workloads you will have in M&A But you have to take into account: 🔸 Most search funds do not pay their interns or pay a symbolic amount 🔸 Not all search funds work the same way. The tasks as an intern could vary a lot, making your experience more or less productive. Try to talk to the searcher and previous/current interns of the SF you are interviewing with / interested in to know it more in deep. 🔸 You have to be resilient. The SF work implies many repetitive and boring tasks as well: contact searching, being ghosted, advancing in negotiations for a NO at the end... 💥 To widen your knowledge about SF, we recommend you to read "Buying a Small Business" by Richard S. 🤷♂️ What is the CFA Institute Charter? 🤷♀️ Why is everyone getting this certification ❓ 🧐 Should I have it? There are many questions about this topic nowadays. To help you ease this decision, we want to share with you 5 key ideas: 1️⃣ This certification packs you with a wide range of financial knowledge 🤓 , separated into 3 different levels, being the most complete curriculum within the investment industry 💱 2️⃣ It is ideal for you if you want to break into portfolio management, equity research, private wealth, investment strategy, or sales & trading 📊 Although it can be useful for M&A, it is not specifically designed for that. 3️⃣ If your background is not financial (for example, you are an engineer or a biologist), the CFA charter can be useful for understanding all relevant financial terms and topics📚 4️⃣ The CFA charter does not guarantee you a differentiator in your CV (many candidates have nowadays the level I passed) but it can be a great way to demonstrate perseverance, interest, and dedication. 5️⃣ To pass the exams, you will need to spend a lot of time preparing them (the pass rate is around 40% for level I) ⏰ Normally, each candidate spends 300 hours or more to prepare for each level. 💡 If you have more doubts, you can ask them in the comment section, check the factsheet attached, or the CFA Institute web page: https://lnkd.in/gPBkCsk 💬 Have you passed some CFA level? He told us about ACE, a wonderful initiative he leads with Iñigo Herrero and Rahul Melwani. 🤩 At that exact moment, we knew the enormous potential of the project, the founders, and the members. That is why, from Finance Generation, we are so proud to power ACE. 👉 ACE was born as a different talent community. With a small, exclusive group, where connections are strong and genuine, it goes beyond professional relationships. 🤝 The activities will expand from talks and lectures to networking events, volunteering, and group dynamics. 🏆 Currently, ACE focuses on the youngest university talents (born in 2005, 2nd year in 2024-2025), although the initiative is expected to grow and cover more age groups. 📌 Even though the recruitment process is over, there is a chance to open new positions for exceptional candidates. 📍 New projects with them are already in the oven.
