🌍 Sustainably using CO2 in biological methanation 🌱 ECOTEC, a leader in advanced biogas treatment technologies, has partnered with CDTI (Centro para el Desarrollo Tecnológico Industrial) to launch an R&D project. The goal? Transforming CO2 from biogas upgrading into methane (CH4) using biological methanation, with the scientific expertise of IREC (Instituto de Investigación de la Energía de Cataluña). 💡 How It Works: 🐄 Biogas Production: Organic waste undergoes anaerobic digestion to produce biogas (mainly CH4 and CO2). ⏫ Biogas Upgrading: CO2 is separated using membrane technology to purify methane (CH4). ♻️Biomethanation: Residual CO2 combines with green hydrogen (H2) from renewable sources in a biological reactor, converting it into additional CH4. The system is designed to tackle up to 100,000 m³/h of odors. Here's a glimpse into ECOTEC's comprehensive solution: 💧 Humidification Tower: A towering 3m diameter structure crucial for optimal air treatment. By delicately misting water, it fosters the growth and activity of microorganisms vital for contaminant degradation. 🌀 High-Performance Fan: With a capacity of 100,000 m³/h, this fan ensures consistent airflow, facilitating uniform contaminant distribution and removal. 🔁 Biofilter Backfill: 790 m³ of selected biofilter media to optimize microbial colonization, maximizing contaminant removal efficiency. 🌬️ Suction air ducts: Over 2 km of collectors efficiently capture contaminants, directing them to the biofilter for elimination. 🛡️ GRP Covers: 3021 m² of covers safeguard biofilter integrity, providing durability and corrosion resistance for optimal operation. The result? A highly effective solution for eliminating MSW-associated odors, meeting stringent environmental regulations.
