A story of invention.

Driven by frustration with his old vacuum and a passion for problem solving, James Dyson invented the first bagless vacuum. No big companies wanted to buy his invention – selling vacuum bags was far too profitable. So James decided to set up his own company. He called it Dyson. Our philosophy remains the same as it was almost 30 years ago when James Dyson invented the first cyclonic vacuum cleaner.

The future of engineering

Our work at the Dyson Institute of Technology, the James Dyson Foundation and the James Dyson Award is transforming tomorrow and helping to define the future of engineering. For us, engineering is everything. We’re fiercely dedicated to transforming people’s lives with our radical ideas, by solving the problems others ignore. Just as we constantly strive to identify the problems of the future, we’re committed to inspiring and training the engineers who will solve them.
