If september feels like a new beginning in the middle of the year, it's often because it brings a change in routine for many of us. While some are returning to work after a summer break and getting back into the swing of things, others are starting school or university, diving into a world of uncertainty and new opportunities. Whatever you're returning to or starting over with, we thought it might be helpful to have a tool to help you focus, relax and set the stage for meaningful action. That's why today we'd like to share with you a 5-minute guided box breathing exercise for instant calm and stress relief. Special thanks to Ling S. for introducing us to this practical technique. Ling joined us a few months ago for an episode on burnout prevention, which you can listen to here: https://cutt.ly/TeE2dJbX Wishing you a happy and relaxed week! #breathwork #boxbreathing #personaldevelopment

Change can be scary, even though it's part of our everyday lives. And for some reason, change in the workplace can feel even more intimidating. After all, it takes courage to be a beginner at something new. Doesn't it? However, allowing yourself a (professional) life where you give yourself permission to... change, shift, adapt and try things out is not only fulfilling - it also reaffirms that you are the most important project in your life. In our last conversation with Joanna, we talked about the courage it takes to step off a carefully paved professional path and into the unknown, and the energy that comes from living your professional life on your own terms. Curious? Listen to the episode here: https://cutt.ly/zenTYgiT #courage #careerchange #professionaldevelopment

Does empathy fit into your workplace? (Here's why it should) Let's be clear from the start: Empathy is more than just a nice-to-have soft skill. According to Catalyst Inc. (2021): 47% of employees with highly empathetic leaders report being innovative at work. ↳ Only 13% of employees with less empathetic leaders say the same. 67% of employees with empathetic leaders say they are engaged at work. ↳ This drops to 24% with less empathic leaders. 𝘚𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦: https://cutt.ly/MeltkvqN But... what exactly is empathy? Psychologists Daniel Goleman and Paul Ekman have identified three types of empathy: 1. 𝐂𝐨𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲  → Understanding the emotions of others. 2. 𝐀𝐟𝐟𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲  → Feeling the emotions of others. 3. 𝐂𝐨𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐞𝐦𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐡𝐲  → Taking action to help. Still hesitant to highlight empathy as one of your strengths in job interviews? Think again. #empathy #professionaldevelopment #empathyintheworkplace

Your next 1-1 with your manager is just around the corner & you are wondering what to ask? 👏🏼First of all, kudos to you for wanting to prepare for the meeting. This is a clear sign that you are open to feedback and committed to personal growth. 𝘚𝘰 𝘸𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴𝘬? 𝘈𝘯𝘥 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘺𝘰𝘶 𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘪𝘵? 𝐀𝐬𝐤 𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜, 𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐧-𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐝 𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 Rather than making general requests, ask specific, open-ended questions to gain valuable insights: ❌Can you give me some feedback on my recent work? ✅I value your insights and would appreciate your honest feedback on yesterday's presentation. Specifically, I would like to know... 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐨𝐧 𝐟𝐮𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐢𝐦𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 ✅What can I do differently in the future to improve? ✅What should I stop/start/continue doing? Preparing thoughtful questions not only shows your commitment, but also promotes a more productive and meaningful conversation. And now yes, best of luck! #feedback #howtoaskforfeedback #professionaldevelopment
