After the Innovation Days’ Rome in 2018, it was a pleasure to join the ALICE, Alliance for Logistics Innovation through Collaboration in Europe (ETP LOGISTICS) ecosystem in Brussels for a new edition of their Brokerage Event. It has been a groundbreaking effort to align business, political and research agendas in the EU logistics sector. As well as a unique opportunity to connect with the leaders and decision makers. Day one focused on boosting and empowering short-term collaborations in the framework of the incoming calls for projects of CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency, #MissionCities and EIT Urban Mobility. As for day two, we made an exhaustive exercise to feed European Commission agenda with priorities for 2025-2027 and beyond. Kudos for Fernando Liesa and #ALICEteam for their guidance. This time in Brussels is a significant milestone for us at capillar IT: we have made our official debut as #ALICE members! Previously we were shortlisted as startup of the year in #IPICI2019 London. Then, in #IPIC2023 Athens we showcased progress to mainstream the deployment of sustainable last mile in cities. There, we made visible our work in the framework of the CIVITAS Initiative ECCENTRIC in Mercamadrid, S.A., Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH’s “Programa de Transporte Sustentable’ in Mexico and in #horizoneurope DECARBOMILE. SMEs leading the Green Transition of our cities? We approached the sessions to test the sector readiness to bet for efficacy in the road to decarbonize urban logistics. In other words, are there strategic sectors that can be the backbone for it and build urban resilience? Can they articulate decarbonization with more competitive and sustainable commerce? We brought to the working tables our learnings and insights on the potential impact of #freshfood #wholesalemarkets. Can fresh food flows around wholesale markets be the spine of a #dataspace-enabled #PI-network? Beyond agrifood, are there other strategic flows crossing cities that should be prioritized by European Commission in its roadmap to sustainable logistics as Roel Gevaers recently points out in Belgium? What do you think? cc Lola Román Gallego, Alexis FAVRE, Hermine de Nantois, Stéphane Layani, Lola Ortiz Sánchez, Philippe Binard, Fernando Alvarez, Gonzalo Reguera Díaz de Terán, RAUL GIBOUDOT, Boris Richeux
📢 Day 2 of the interactive ALICE Brokerage Event focused on providing ideas and giving reflections on the recommendations for the 2025-2027 calls and beyond! On the agenda of the day: discussion tables, engaging discussions, brainstorming, lots of ideas, and networking. Many thanks to all the participants for their active involvement and positive attitude. With Fernando Liesa #Brokerage #logistics #innovation #horizoneurope

Expert in sustainable urban logistics at urbike and FlexiModal – Partner of Evolve – Doctor in Applied Sciences
We took part in a revolutionary study! 💥 #Cargobikes are revolutionising the last-mile delivery sector. Until now, however, there has been a lack of data and field studies to prove the benefits and potential of cargo bikes in urban deliveries. Over the last few months, we have therefore been involved in a ground-breaking study with our partners of Larry vs Harry (Claus Nordahl, Hans Fogh, Vincent Collignon) and Kale AI (Nicolas Collignon, Esben Sørig, Soonmyeong (Chris) Yoon) to provide solid evidence on the performance of #cyclelogistics based on the analysis of our cargo bike deliveries in Brussels. And the results are quite remarkable: 🚀 Cargo bikes are twice as efficient as vans for urban deliveries (10.1 parcels delivered per hour compared with 4.9); 💰 They are ten times cheaper to run than vans; 🌿 The use of cargo bikes will considerably reduce traffic congestion and pollution (-98% and -96% of CO2 emissions compared with internal combustion and electric vans); We are proud and honoured at urbike to have been able to take part in such work, which I hope will be a landmark in the urban logistics sector and help to accelerate the transition to more sustainable delivery solutions. Find out more about our study and its results: ➡ Watch the full video: https://lnkd.in/efkr_ZnU ➡ Read the article: https://lnkd.in/emShddUN ➡ Discover the full report: https://lnkd.in/e2QA7g6s
🚲 𝐂𝐚𝐫𝐠𝐨 𝐛𝐢𝐤𝐞𝐬 𝐝𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞𝐫 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 𝐟𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐜𝐡𝐞𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐜𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐧𝐞𝐫 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐯𝐚𝐧𝐬 🚚 💥 Cargo bikes are disrupting the business of last mile delivery. A new study shows that they are twice as efficient for urban delivery and 10 times cheaper to operate compared to vans. In addition, using cargo bikes will cut congestion and pollution dramatically. New mobility plans that focus on traffic changes in favour of cargo bikes instead of vans, are a means for city governments of reducing pollution, CO2 emissions and congestion – making cities and neighbourhoods safer, greener and healthier. The current political agenda is pushing for the transition to cargo bikes in last mile delivery. 📖 Up until now there has been a lack of data and studies from multiple cities that prove the benefits and the potential of cargo bikes in urban deliveries. However, a new case study is a pursuit in that direction: providing rigorous evidence. ⚠️ The results are remarkable: 📦 A fleet of GPS-tracked cargo bikes delivered 10.1 packages per hour on average – twice as many as vans, which could deliver 4.9 packages per hour. 📈 When including both fixed and variable costs, each delivery cost €0.10 with a cargo bike, €1.10 with a small diesel van and €1.05 with a small electric van. 🌍 Cargo bikes slash greenhouse gas emissions by 96-98% compared to vans. The result of the study is not only relevant news for companies and organizations with delivery tasks. Ordinary consumers can note that if they live in an urban area, and travel to work every day – perhaps they drop their child off at day care or school as well – then they can save many hours of transportation per year using a cargo bike instead of a car. This also applies to other professionals who move a lot around the cities to carry out their jobs as plumbers, locksmiths, technicians, fitters, internet installers, craftsmen and so on. 🚲 Last week, one of DECARBOMILE partners, Red de Ciudades por la Bicicleta (RCxB), took a significant step forward in promoting sustainable urban transportation! 🌆 🤝 In a collaborative effort, 20 representatives from local administrations, municipalities, and 5 last-mile operators across Spain gathered in Donostia. Together, they delved into discussions about initiatives and measures to boost cyclo-logistics in their cities. 🗣️ It was an opportunity for these stakeholders to share their valuable experiences and perspectives. Municipalities discussed the initiatives they are currently implementing and the challenges they're encountering in their localities. 🔍 The working group aimed to identify the strengths, opportunities, and weaknesses of the sector when it comes to promoting innovative transportation solutions. Their goal? To determine the next steps needed to bring about meaningful change. 📚 Excitingly, this productive session uncovered the need for guidance in the form of resources like a comprehensive hub/microhub structure guide and a proposed regulation framework to ensure the legality of activities and vehicles such as cargos and trailers. 📢 Stay tuned for more updates as we work diligently to compile and share these essential resources with all stakeholders in the near future. Together, we're paving the way for a more sustainable and bicycle-friendly urban landscape! 🌍🚴♂️ Read the full article (for spanish speaker): CINEA - European Climate, Infrastructure and Environment Executive Agency CIVITAS Initiative #UrbanMobility #CycloLogistics #SustainableCities #TransportationInnovation #RCxB

Distributed architecture for sovereign dataspaces also in rural regions 👌🏿. Let’s move on to a fruitful coopetition with digital giants.
Thrilled to be a part of something big! We are proud to announce that the FIWARE iHubs network is contributing to the development of European rural areas and communities! dRural Mirror Regions Call winners have been announced https://lnkd.in/dRMyiYDK with Hellenic FIWARE iHub and North Iberia FIWARE iHub (AERTIC) being part of two of the winner consortia. Hellenic FIWARE iHub and Future Intelligence Ltd will work with dRural project FIWOO and IDI Eikon integrating the project's Core Platform with #quhoma! Of course, integration is simpler when #opensource solutions are adopted. And this is where FIWARE jumps in since both #fiwoo and #quhoma are #FIWARE-ready products already in #fiwaremarketpalce. By integrating #dRural project technologies like a UX #Marketplace any #RegionalAgriFoodPartnership like AGRIFOODWEST can provide a website/eshop for its members to advertise and offer their products and create new innovative sophisticated and #data-driven services that exploit #quhoma functionalities (eg sensor data, harvest data,…) in favor of the #digitaltransformation of #rural economy. NorthIberia iHub and AERTIC have lent their expertise to local entities #dMillenial and ADRA in La Rioja for their participation in this game-changing project. Their collective effort is centered in developing an open source platform that will be rolled out for local businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs to list their services. The platform will be as well accessible to customers and users eager to explore the vibrant array of offerings within their community. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey! Thanks to theocharis moysiadis and Silvia Miguez Abian for the nice quotes!
