At Brainlab, science drives our success. Keep reading to learn more about a recently published clinical study investigating the accuracy of computer-assisted percutaneous pedicle screw (PPS) placement using our spine navigation technology. 👇 👀 The study, published in the International Journal of Spine Surgery, was carried out at Epworth Hospital, where surgeons used Brainlab spine navigation software when performing 1-to-3-level lateral decubitus single-position surgery via LLIF, ALIF, or combined LLIF/ALIF with PPS placement between L1 and S1. This type of procedure, when done with different positioning, requires time- and resource-consuming repositioning of the patient from prone to lateral or supine position. This is why researchers used lateral decubitus positioning in particular, since no repositioning is needed. This type of procedure also has high workflow and technical equipment requirements to ensure accurate and safe screw placement, which is why researchers used our cutting-edge navigation technology. The results demonstrated that Brainlab spine navigation addresses all of these issues, enabling safe and accurate screw placement effectively, advancing the field of spine surgery even further. Brainlab reshapes its Executive Board to develop deeper integration between functional areas across the organization. 🚀 Leveraging the operational experience of long-standing executives and expanding the Executive Board from three to four people, Brainlab appoints Tobias Schalkhaußer as Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) and Florian Hoffmann as Chief Operating Officer (COO). Both will work side by side with long-standing members of the Executive Board, Stefan Vilsmeier (CEO) and Rainer Birkenbach (CTO). Florian Hoffmann will succeed Jan Merker, who concludes his seven-year tenure at Brainlab at his own request by the end of the company's fiscal year on September 30, 2024, to pursue new professional opportunities. We are beyond excited to announce the successful launch of our latest spine innovation, Spine Mixed Reality Navigation*, now officially used in its first groundbreaking procedures!🚀 Spine Mixed Reality Navigation* provides surgeons with a precise overlay of patient imaging data and planned structures through the skin and before any incision, enabling surgeons to benefit from enhanced visualization, improved hand-eye coordination and optimized ergonomics in spine surgery. This cutting-edge technology was employed on the same day at both Mater Misericordiae University Hospital in Ireland and Stavanger universitetssjukehus, Helse Stavanger in Norway. A big congratulations to the surgical teams: Stacey Darwish, MD, Joseph S. Butler, MD, and the entire team at Mater Misericordiae University Hospital who performed two spinal fusion with pedicle screw placement and Clemens Weber, MD, PhD, David Werner, MD, PhD and Kjell Akre, MD at Stavanger University Hospital who performed an indirect decompression and cage insertion.
