Researchers from the Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC) and ICFO, both #BISTCommunity centres, demonstrate the ability of atomic sensors to non-destructively monitor, measure and optimize nuclear spin hyperpolarization of some clinically relevant molecules in real-time. This development could significantly reduce the cost and logistical challenges of clinical magnetic resonance imaging, and has the potential to be used in many hospitals worldwide, as well as other fields including chemical processes, high energy physics, or even quantum computing. The 28 students from the #BISTMaster #MMRES 2024-2025 class are in full swing! 🎉 Just three weeks ago, these students—representing 13 different nationalities—met for the first time. Since then, they've spent hours together in intensive training on #Statistics, #Programming, #DataAnalysis, #RRI, #Communication, and #Research at the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (Campus Mar). In just two more weeks, they'll be ready to kick off their research projects, under the guidance of outstanding scientists from the #BISTCommunity and #UPF_MELIS Stay tuned for their exciting journey ahead!

🎓 This week, the BIST community celebrated the graduation of the 2023-2024 class of the Master of Multidisciplinary Research in Experimental Sciences (#MMRES) and welcomed the 2024-2025 cohort, the largest since the program’s inception! The Graduation Ceremony, at the iconic La Pedrera auditorium, included a speech by Dr. Marion Salzer, BIST-FBA fellow at the Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), who shared her insights into research and career growth. Dr. Noelia Ferruz at Centre for Genomic Regulation (CRG), and Dr. Irene Marco-Rius at Institute for Bioengineering of Catalonia (IBEC), each receive €1.5 Million #ERC Starting Grants for their frontier #research projects. Ferruz's will develop ATHENA, a generative #AI to design proteins; Marco-Rius will lead LIFEIME, a project aimed to unveil how different treatments affect liver tumour #metabolism over time.
