😍 Big shoutout to Borbala Duska, Tsitsino Lobzhanidze & Temenuzhka Lozanova - our awesome event management team. 🙏 Around a year ago, three incredible individuals stepped up to continue the legacy of our dear María Ángeles Salazar Rustarazo who virtually singlehandedly (with support from Natasha D at times) built BCN FinTech's event management operations from the ground up 🏗️. As our founders had zero experience in this area, Maria's dedication and work was pivotal in making our event operations professional and smooth. Now, these three amazing humans dedicate their free time to volunteer and help run our event operations, driven purely by their love for organizing events and bringing joy to people’s faces. Every one of them has contributed their own unique touch to continuously improve upon the strong foundation Maria built. From food operations and venue scouting to design, check-ins, and photos—they handle it all. They’ve shown a remarkable ability to adapt to adversity and make quick, smart decisions, all while bringing a positive energy and always keeping a smile on their faces. This makes every event welcoming and warm. Be it working with new venues or overcoming unexpected challenges (as are bound to happen in this profession), their resilience is a major reason why BCN FinTech has achieved its success and growth. As a small team, there is no way we'd have achieved what we did without the help of these 3 fantastic people (and Maria before that of course). So we just want to say a big thank you to them all! Special shout-out to our talented Tsitsino Lobzhanidze, who is actively seeking opportunities in event management. 🙌 What an incredible night for our BCN FinTech community! 🎉 Last night’s BCN FinTech Afterwork was an unforgettable experience, our biggest & best event to date - and it's all thanks to YOU! 🏆 We had a record turnout with ticket sales hitting an all-time high, filling our new venue—the beautiful Barcelona Finance Hub by Aticco—to the brim. Seeing so many familiar faces from our local fintech ecosystem and welcoming attendees who traveled to Barcelona for the European Blockchain Convention made the evening truly special. 💡 Meeting Update on Strengthening the Catalan Financial Ecosystem 🎯 A few days ago, we shared that BCN FinTech would meet with representatives focused on boosting the local finance industry. This meeting took place this past Tuesday, with Elliott Locke, ACSI & Clemens Rychlik in attendance to represent BCN FinTech and our community. While we can't disclose all details due to confidentiality, we're excited to share what we can: the key points discussed. Transparency is a core value at BCN FinTech, and we’re committed to keeping you informed. 🎯 Key Takeaways from the Meeting: 1️⃣ Boosting the Ecosystem: There is a clear goal to enhance the Catalan Financial Ecosystem. A mapping of the sector has already been initiated by the representatives to understand its current size and impact. BCN FinTech is open to collaborating by cross-referencing our fintech data with theirs, and a first macro-check showed our figures are pretty close. 2️⃣ Engaging Key Figures: In the second step, dialogues with industry leaders are planned. As the leading fintech association in Catalonia, BCN FinTech was included in this discussion, and we’ve recommended other key figures they should engage with in the fintech sector. 3️⃣ Challenges & Recommendations Discussed: 😎 Brand Visibility: Catalonia needs a stronger global brand as a fintech hub. Enhancing communication in English, alongside Catalan and Spanish, is crucial for broader international reach beyond Barcelona and Spain. 🌏 International Representation: More visibility for our fintech ecosystem outside Spain is vital. Hosting a major annual international fintech event in Barcelona could significantly boost our global standing similar to what the MWC did. Ensuring a higher participation of local fintechs at events abroad would boost the knowledge of our ecosystem further. 🏦 Bank-Startup Collaboration: Improved connectivity between traditional banks and fintech startups is essential for a robust ecosystem, both in terms of easier communication and a higher level of collaboration. 👩💼 👩💻 Talent Attraction: To support growth, the region requires more talent, both in financial and technical domains. We emphasized the importance of boosting the development of local talent and attracting international experts. 🤝 High-Level Support: A consistent focus on fintech from top leadership, akin to how London prioritizes fintech, is needed to boost the region's profile over the long term. 4️⃣ Future Collaboration: Potential collaborations with BCN FinTech were explored, with a shared goal of boosting the local ecosystem.
