Having worked in environments which set very high service level expectations, I believe it is important to set realistic goals for service. Primarily, goals/ performance indicators must be realistic but stretched. Tough assignments can get the best of the team. We understand their strengths and/or underlying training needs in the process. Although, tasks may seem arduous initially, the relief of validated accomplishment and satisfaction of having set benchmark in the industry is immeasurable. It adds value and drives oneself to pursue higher benchmarks. Celebrating success with the team is a key to motivate the team always. Also, recognition of achievement publicly boosts morale of team members.

Expectations are key to success. You don't know what you don't know. The same goes for you, you don't know what great ideas are out there if you don't involve your team. I on principle involved my team in all policy changes. Not because I was unable to make the decision, but because it involved them and thus they should have some input. You also get more buy-in from your team when they were involved. So set expectations, involve your team and the rest is the small stuff and we don't sweat the small stuff.

As a leader in service operations, motivating your team to improve performance starts with setting clear and realistic goals. Clearly defined objectives provide a sense of direction and purpose, guiding team members towards tangible outcomes. When setting goals, it's crucial to ensure they are achievable and aligned with both individual and organizational objectives. By involving team members in the goal-setting process and breaking down larger objectives into smaller, manageable tasks, you can foster a sense of ownership and accountability, motivating them to strive for excellence.

A rule of thumb to stay motivated is to know what is your objective. the F&F strategy is what i use personally to stay motivated. Once your objectives are clear add Fun and Fear factors. Like playing a video game, make your tasks filled with fun or reward yourself if you finish the task in 3 hours, you can take a break for 20mins. similarly, Think about the consequences if you missed the deadline which you have fixed

From my past experience, making your team feel an ownership of the place they work gives them pride, conscientious to ensure that the daily operations run smoothly and will ensure that they will represent their company well. With the sense of ownership, your delegation of tasks to your team is easier and at the end somehow there will be some volunteerism that will come out from the team.
