The four areas you can discover your values from: 1. Body (physical health): Which aspect of physical health do you value the most? Such as nutrition, exercise, water intake, sleep, etc. 2. Mind (mental health): Which aspect of mental health do you value the most? Self-esteem, self-confidence, independence, etc. 3. Spirit (spiritual health): Which aspect of spiritual health do you value the most? Such as kindness, compassion, forgiveness, appreciation, etc. 4: Cause: Which cause do you value the most? Such as environmental, animal, hunger, etc. Even though you can value all the components above, you choose one from each category to guide your behaviors because you do not have time for all of them.

From my journey in the cyber world, evidence-based interventions include finding values, leveraging strengths, setting meaningful goals, fostering connections, engaging in flow activities, and reflecting on life stories. These practices sculpt a rich tapestry of purpose and fulfillment. Also, remember mindfulness and narrative therapy for profound insights. It's about personal exploration and growth, shaping a meaningful life.

Reflecting on my journey, engaging in meaningful hobbies or projects, such as writing scripts or volunteering, infused my life with purpose. Creativity is vital in applying strengths successfully. The flow state, achievable through various activities, eliminates moments of questioning life's meaning. Mindfulness enhances self-awareness, aligning values and strengths with meaningful goals. Exploring life narratives fosters understanding and shaping future endeavors. Let's enrich life's tapestry with diverse experiences and profound insights.

The VIA Survey of Character Strengths, can help individuals identify their unique talents and capacities. Encourage a focus on strengths rather than weaknesses. Consider how you can use strengths to catch up on your weaknesses. Fostering an environment where individuals recognise and celebrate each other's strengths can amplify a sense of purpose within a community or organisation. This mutual appreciation promotes collaboration and shared goals, enhancing collective meaning.

Creativity is important to help you apply your strengths successfully in different contexts. The more creative you become, the more you can utilize your strengths so they are not wasted.

Goals that are meaningful and personally relevant are more likely to be pursued with passion and perseverance. Make sure you choose your own goals-- autonomy matters. Incorporate reflective practices to continually assess the alignment of goals with personal values and the overarching sense of purpose, so things stay relevant and motivating.

Meaning and purpose come from using your strengths to make the world a better place. You want to see what the world needs and see how your strengths can fulfill that need. The more you engage your strengths to make the world a better place, the more meaning and purpose you will experience. When you can see a clear connection between your strengths and the need, then you can set goals to achieve them.

One foundational pillar of human wellbeing is Relationships (according to Seligman's PERMA model). We need one another not only to survive, but to thrive! An effective positive psychology tool to build connection is Active Constructive Responding. This is an evidence-based style of responding to another's positive experience. When someone shares a positive event with you: 1. Actively engage through direct eye contact and enthusiasm 2. Be constructive to the relationship by asking open ended questions 3. Support them in exploring the positives by reflecting positive aspects or emotions of their experience 4. Enhance savoring of the best of what they share Doing so builds their sense of meaning & purpose withing the relationship

We are social creatures, which means our sense of connection with others will always be there. No matter where you go, you are interacting with others. Therefore, building positive relationships with others is important. The people that you see daily, or the most often, are the people you want to build successful relationships with because they will have the most impact on you.

The flow state, or being in "the zone" as coined by psychologist, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi is a coveted brain destination. The flow state, typically characterized by Gamma brain waves, occurs when we are so immersed in an activity that we perform this activity at its highest level and lose all sense of time. Whether this is through enhanced creativity, solving a complex problem, or playing a sport, Gamma's high-frequency oscillations provide the neuroscience support behind this idyllic state of mind.

Several evidence-based interventions aim to enhance meaning and purpose in life: -Meaning-Centered Therapy: MCT assists people to find meaning by connecting with others, contributing, and doing activities that align with their values. -Narrative Therapy: Through narration and rewriting of life stories, people stress on growth, and meaning, thus finding responsibilities and reasons for living. Logotherapy: Following Viktor Frankl's theories and work, logotherapy assists people in discovering meaning in their adversities and challenges and thus reaching higher levels of satisfaction. Mindfulness-Based Interventions: Practices mindfulness creates awareness of the present moment and builds a connection, thus enhancing significance and purpose.

Losing yourself in your passion and making a difference in the world will help you flow through life more successfully. You tend to know where you need to learn and grow your passion and continue to contribute, and experience meaning and purpose.

I frequently entered a state of flow while writing fiction. Achieving this state may indicate your life's purpose, even though the flow is attainable through various activities. Experiencing flow eliminates any moment of questioning the meaning of life. This phenomenon brings to mind a movie quote: "It's not about the meaning; it's about the feeling of life."

Helping women unlock their potential, prioritise their ambitions, and launch successful businesses | Life & Business Coach, Multi-passionate Entrepreneur
As a life coach and mum, I couldn’t agree more with this. I spent fifteen years on and off being a full time mum. When the time came to re-launch my career, I really struggled to figure out who I had become over that time. When you are in the thick of it, you don’t really have time to stop and think and evaluate how life is shaping you. Reflecting on my life story after motherhood really helped me identify how I had grown and changed, even down to my values. It helped me clarify where I wanted to go next and to understand my strengths and weaknesses and how I wanted to live and shape the next chapter in my life.

Mindfulness can help in being present and fully engaged in the current moment, allowing a deeper understanding of one's values and strengths. It can enhance self-awareness, making it easier to set meaningful goals and connect with others on a more authentic level. Mindful reflection can also deepen the understanding of one’s life narrative, contributing to a stronger sense of purpose.

The most effective evidenced-based relationship to purpose is something totally different than everything mentioned so far in this article! Ready to know what it is? Exercise! In a large cohort, longitudinal study of tens of thousands of people a bi-directional relationship was found over decades between exercise and purpose. Translation: those who exercised at the start grew purpose over time AND those with purpose exercised more and more over time. Don't have purpose and want to find it? Start taking care of your body. Have purpose and want to live long enough to see it through? Start taking care of your body.
