The Committee

On June 19, 2024, President Lai Ching-te held a press conference marking his first month in office titled “Building Trust through Policy Initiatives: A New Taiwan for an Era of Innovation,” in which he announced the establishment of the National Climate Change Committee and that he would personally take on the role of convener, with Executive Yuan Vice Premier Cheng Li-chiun (鄭麗君), Academia Sinica President James C. Liao (廖俊智), and Pegatron Corporation Chairman Tung Tzu-hsien (童子賢) as deputy conveners. The committee includes representatives from government agencies, industry, and civil society groups and experts who will serve as its members and advisors.

The committee holds discussions in seven key areas: net-zero pathway, green energy and carbon reduction technology, green and digital twin transformation, sustainable green lifestyle, just transition, green finance, and sustainable homeland and adaptive resilience. The committee’s mandate is to engage with civil society to develop national strategies.
