Barred from Eternity

Since the dawn of human consciousness, we’ve pondered our own existence. It’s an honest question; Why are we here? Is there really any reason, or are we truly alone? 

Perhaps it is the pursuit of these questions that ordains meaning. Maybe truly understanding our purpose on earth would be a curse, one that you wish you could take back. What if you couldn’t? What if you found out the truth of life, for better or for worse?

You’ve taken too much acid. You were legally dead for 14 minutes. You stared at the sun for too long. Something sparked, and you saw right through the facade of the universe. The knowledge is damnation, but it’s that - knowledge. Knowledge that you have the power of knowing.

With this power, you have decided to save (or corrupt) the soul of someone you know. This process will be long, changing their worldview and instilling new habits will take convincing and time. But maybe you should work fast. There are demons about. 

Barred from Eternity is a short play game and a thought exercise in morality. Knowing the true mechanics of the universe, but being damned from its fruits. You now understand the reality of our situation. And all you can do is try to save the ones around you.

Barred from Eternity is played between 2-4 people, using pencils and paper to keep track of characters, dice to solve problems, and at least a single playing card.

This game was made for the Wretched and Alone Jam 2020, and has mechanics appropriated from the Wretched system. A huge thank you to B. Everette Dutton for graphic design and to my wonderful girlfriend for creative inspiration.
