[edit]From Old Norse vríða, from Proto-Germanic *wrīþaną. Related to vreid (“wroth”) and vreide (“wrath”). Originally a strong verb, it may now also be inflected as a weak verb as well.
Verb
[edit]vrida (present tense vrider or vrir, past tense vridde or vreid, supine vridd/vridt or vride, past participle vridd or vriden, present participle vridande, imperative vrid)
- to turn, twist, wring
- (reflexive) to squirm, twist, wriggle, writhe
- (card games) to change the colour or suit that is allowed to play (according to the rules of the particular game)
