  1. (transitive) to prescribe (a substance)

  2. (transitive, perhaps dated, surely informal, never legal) to make over; to sign over [with accusative ‘something e.g. property’ and dative ‘to someone’]
    Synonyms: vermachen, übereignen, überschreiben
    Das Haus hatte er schon Jahre vor seinem Tod seiner Tochter verschrieben.
    Years before his death, he had already signed over the house to his daughter.
  3. (reflexive) to commit oneself [with dative ‘to something’]

    She has fully committed herself to religion.
  4. (reflexive) to make an error while writing (by misspelling or otherwise)
    Mann, jetzt habe ich mich schon wieder verschrieben!
    Man, now I've made yet another slip of the pen!
  5. (transitive) to use (an amount of ink, paper, etc.) in writing
