Old Prussian

Old Prussian ordinal numbers
 <  5 6 7  >
    Ordinal : usts

Etymology

[edit]

From earlier *ustas, with loss of initial *s- if compared to Proto-Indo-European (this sound is preserved in other Balto-Slavic languages). This loss points to a Proto-Baltic regional variant *uštas (instead of *seštas), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *uśtas, from West Baltic *us (a regional variant of cardinal number six), derived from Proto-Balto-Slavic *uš, from Proto-Indo-European *sweḱstós with *s- loss (*weḱstós or *uḱstós), ultimately from *swéḱs (six)
