Etymology
[edit]From older escire, from Latin exīre, from ex eō (“to go”). The word may have been phonetically influenced by the etymologically unrelated uscio (“door”).
Compare Sicilian nèsciri, Catalan eixir, Romanian ieșire, Old Spanish exir and Old French issir.
