From udhë (way, road), from Proto-Albanian *uj́ā-, from Proto-Indo-European *uǵʰéh₂ < *weǵʰ- (to move, walk).[1] Cognate to Latin vehō, via, Old English weġ. Connected to erdha.[2] Close to Greek έρχομαι (érchomai, come), aorist ήρθα (írtha, I came), Middle Irish eirgg (go!), German ragen (to rise)[3]

Alternative variant of hurdhë. From Proto-Albanian *wurdā, from an earlier *urdā or *uordā, from Proto-Indo-European *wer- (to boil, to burn). Cognate to Old Armenian վառիմ (vaṙim, to burn), Lithuanian vìrti (to cook, to boil).[4] Compare also Romanian urdă.
