From Proto-Balto-Slavic *tárˀpas; compare Old Church Slavonic трапъ (trapŭ), Serbo-Croatian trȁp (pit, trough), Bulgarian трап (trap, pit, cavern). Compare also Tocharian A tarp (pond), Thracian tarpo- (valley).[1]
