[edit]From Old Norse *þǫx, from Proto-Germanic *þahsuz, cognate with Norwegian Nynorsk svintoks, Swedish tax (“dachshund”), German Dachs, Dutch das. The Danish word may be a younger loan from German Low German Tacks (perhaps itself borrowed from Frisian, cf. Saterland Frisian Taks).
